    Premiere
    After Effects
    Sorenson

Here is a list of some free ones:

I doubt you're going to pay the money for Final Cut Pro or Avid Pro DV, as they're both over 1000. There is a cheaper version for Avid, called Avid Express DV, which will run you about 300-500. Great system, and you probably won't need anything it doesn't have. The main difference between Express and Pro is the amount of audio/video levels, real time rendering, and other things that are easy to do without.

Avid also just came out with another one called Liquid, after it bought out another company. Haven't ever used it.

There are the cheaper ones like Adobe Premiere Elements, which is very user friendly (a lot of drag and drop), and it's only about 140. Good beginners software.

After Effects is more for effects and animation.

Check out the Avid/Adobe pages, and they have free trials so you can play with them and see if you're interested in them.

If you want to go freeware, VirtualDub and AVISynth are pretty useful.

Dam I went to go open that ADVID program and at 45% of the install it gave me a warning window that said I need XP service pack or better. I am using someone's PC now with XP I wonder if maybe since I have not acivated windows yet if I will have problems. I went to the MicroSoft site to get Direct X or Flash Player and it would not load until I activated windows. Thank God for CNET Downloads , Just think , If I am having problems now?
I wonder what will happen when I go back to my POS pc with windows ME

pinnacle studio pro is a good program, but is also expensive. if you have newsgroup access and know how to use it, that can help.

Mouse - yeah, that last one is XPressDV.

Dude - I went to school for it, and I also work as a video editor now. Avid is easy to use, and probably the best system for it. Most professional movies are edited on some form of Avid, albeit much more expensive ones than an at home consumer will own. A consumer version is XPress DV. It is what a lot of schools use, and will run you a few hundred dollars, if you want to go that high. And then there are always Mouse's tactics.

Final Cut Pro is pretty much the same thing, just for the Apple platform. Reviews are pretty split between the two. Six of one, half a dozen of the other.

If you're looking for a good program for between 100-200, I'd recommend Adobe Premiere. It's a very user friendly program - and good for a beginner.

The Pinnacle ones are good, but I'd recommend against the last one. I think it was 12? Huge stability issues, but I'm sure they'll work that kink out before the next release.
