How long until it happens? Hopefully forever.

How long would it last? Either 10 minutes (once someone presses the big red nuke button) or 100 years (uber cold war).

Personally, I don't think we'll end up at war with Iran.

Russia would fall in line with the US on that one.

Hopefully it never happens, because if it does get ready to watch planet earth glow.

Your assuming that Dubya is calling the shots, besides the Neocons know that if they don't do it by the time Dubya is either impeached or steps out of office in 09, it will likely not get done.

I don't think Russia would stick with that alliance. Actually I very much doubt that Russia would stand directly against the US at all. Plus they've been hit pretty hard by Islamic extremists themselves, I don't think the people would be crazy about an alliance with Iran and Syria. And their government is too fragile to squash most dissent like the good ol' USSR.

USA vs. China seems bound to happen at some point unless the US decides to abandon her allies and surrender power in the Pacific. I don't foresee that "war" lasting long, even if the UK and Australia sit that one out. The US Navy's domination of the sea isn't exactly threatened by China, outside of anti-ship nukes they'd be hard pressed to even slow the US navy down.

Unless North Korea starts flinging nukes around, South Korea should be able to contain them with only support from the US (which is to say only support units of the US military beyond the US forces already guarding the DMZ/stationed in Korea).

Syria isn't a military threat unless they have some WMD stashed away. Besides, if they get uppity Israel is likely to smack 'em down.

Iran=Iraq with 20% more nutjobs. As long as we just bomb the out of them and sweep through with ground forces and not try to repair the country and lead it to become a functional democracy afterwords, Iran will be dealt with swiftly.

Any kind of alliance between the countries mentioned, with the exception of Iran and Syria, is unlikely at best. If they did form an alliance it would be extremely shaky and would probably see very little cooperation outside of joint statements.

How long? I don't see Russia being involved in military action against the US any time soon. China? Within fifteen years, probably more of a skirmish than a war. North Korea? Flip a coin, I personally don't expect them to do anything. Syria? Israel will likely take care of things before they could get out of hand. Iran? There will be war one way or the other, either a war of aggression or a war of revolution.

As mentioned before, the big problem is nukes, if The US can ensure through various means that nuclear armed ballistic missiles don't get involved. The USA and allies come out the winners in almost every scenario.

How can people already involved in a stupid war (Iraq), with another potential war up their alley (Iran) can be thinking about upcoming wars with other countries (China, etc).

What the is wrong with you?

Israel will have to take care of Iran. None of the Western nations, including the
U.S. have the guts to do anything but talk. Iran will have its atomic weapon and
that is when Israel will act. But don't count on open warfare, Israel is very good
at using what resources it has to the nth. It will have some help from us, but
I don't think it will need too much.

China, unless they want to give up the wealth of their new found "communism" I
really don't think the will want a war. Taiwan may present a problem, but again
I am not sure we will keep up our end of the bargain.

The Politicians in Washington have re-discovered the apathy that our country
now shows. Even a major attack on our country only bolstered our citizens to
support any kind of act against those who wrought that destruction on us for
a short period of time. Listen to the clamor of the left wing of our country now.
Listen to the dimm-o-craps in Washington! Screw the country, take care of
the downtrodden. Of course they never think that there are those in this world
who would handle the situation very well, kill the downtrodden along with the
    rest of us.

Umm... when one is a world power of any import, much less the superpower, having contingency plans for such things is necessary.

Yeah, I kind of wonder about that. The Communists (these days in name only) are getting awfully rich from the constant influx of foreign capital into their country, far richer than they ever got being the potentates of Maoist society.

How would it serve their best interests to extinguish that flow?

    i agree with gerryatrics
i mean look at iraq. if we had just gone in and ed up their world, and then left, we would have been gone years ago. we could do that to almost any country, short of nukes being used. and realy the only advantage, though a bigone, that china has over us is numbers.
short of nukes getting tossed around, and god help us if they start doing that, US > *

and yeah we have been in more wars than any other country but seriously, we didnt want to get into ww1, we were dragged into wwII, and the first iraq war was bc iraq invaded kuwait and they are our ally so we had to go in and save the day. as for the other "military conflicts" weve had, most of those wouldnt happen if we would stay the out of other countries business, which we should.
