LONGVIEW, Texas (AP) - A man indicted on federal drug and firearms charges was killed while making a pipe bomb to use against agents, officials said.
James Charles Torrence, 38, was building the bomb Monday in his home when it exploded and killed him, officials said. Authorities evacuated neighbors and detonated a second bomb in a nearby field, said Brian Howell, assistant fire marshal of the Longview Fire Department.
Howell said do ents were found in the residence listing names of agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and the Drug Enforcement Administration. Officials believe the Longview man was targeting the agencies because he felt they built the case against him, Howell said.
Officials also found a machine gun and a pistol silencer in the home, the Longview News-Journal reported.
