That'd be a double sign-and-trade deal. Might as well have each team sign the other player![]()
Is there even a possibility? The Jazz only have the MLE and they need a center. After Wallace and Przybilla, neither of which has shown any interest in Utah, Nazr is considered to be the next best center available through free-agency and Utah originally drafted Nazr and traded him to Philly. Could the Spurs work out a deal for a player like Harpring out of nothing? (Cause that's what they'll get if they just let Nazr walk)?
Could they? Should they?

No way Harpring signs for just the MLE, so Utah has to deal.
Regarding Harpring, he does rebound but he doesn't play any defense. He's also very injury prone.
The odd thing is that even though he's regarded as a horrible defender, he's probably a better option guarding Dirk than anyone on the Spurs. He could beat him up and get some rebounds.
Harpring is very strong and physical and is the best rebounder at his position available, but there have been questions about his knees, although he says they feel great.
nazr for okur
or just give us ak47
Neither of them are free agents - Harpring is.
Wally Sczerbiak with muscles?
He's no 3-point threat, but he can defend multiple positions - kinda like Bruce just not as good.
Matt Harpring throughout his career has been considered a very good defender. Maybe because of his knees, he's not very lateral quick. But, I don't think I've ever heard him called a horrible defender.
He's also a solid 3-point shooter. When he was actually given the gree light to shoot 3-pointers in 2002-03, he shot 41% from the arc. He's a career 34% 3-point shooter.
Also Utah may want a center, but Memo Okur can start at center, so the Jazz don't have to give away pieces just for a decent center. Except when playing against Miami and Houston, having a big, strong center in this league is not paramount anymore. Utah already got a big center in Araujo to throw it the bigger teams, even if he isn't very good.
And, a double sign-and-trade might apply here if both players are worth more than the MLE. Since both teams are over the cap but can go over the MLE for their own players, they could end up doing a double sign-and-trade if they think each of these players are worth more than the MLE.
There's a lot of misinformation in this thread.
Harpring would be an ok addition, but not at Mohammed's price. Something like 4 years, $14 mil or so would make sense for Harpring. Let Utah make the mistake of paying him double or whatever.
Why does Utah need a center? They have Okur and Araujo and they'll probably take back Collins if anything else.
Harpring is not worth resurrecting Malik's salary slot. Just say no.
Harpring for the LLE would be nice(if we weren't going to use it on Jak)..Harpring for more than $2.5 mil is not worth it.
Harpring would be a very nice addition at the right price. A good SF in this league. He can rebound well for a 3, and is a very nice 'supporting' offensive player. His offense has been very productive for the past 3-4 seasons and would make the Spurs better on offense just on his efficiency alone.
Did anyone read the thread le? Harpring himself is not horrible, although down the list of my choices. Harpring for Nazr makes NO sense.
Is there another Matt Harpring out there like Jason Williams?
nazr for lebron get it done
Common, he's not a horrible defender, he's just not a great defender, but on O he manages to get to the rim a lot, a talent the Spurs seemed to lack versus Dallas. For those of you who don't get it, this is a Nazr for Harpring 'trade' only by technicality. Since they are both free agents they can sign an offer sheet from any team they like, so Nazr could be gone tommarrow and the Spurs get nothing.
Yes, Okur could play some center for the Jazz, but Utah still needs a big guy that can play the bigger guys in the NBA night in and night out. I'm not sure if the Jazz hold Harprings bird rights since they signed him as a free-agent in 03. I think they do, but would they be willing to spend all that money and still not addressed their center situation? I think probably not.
I don't know how many Jazz games you've seen ths past season, but when everyone is healthy, Okur starts at center.
Again, Okur/Collins/Araujo is all they need at center. If they trade Boozer you might be able to make an argument for getting Nazr, but otherwise it's a nonstarter.
Collins and Araujo are unproven. Okur is a good athlete, but he's not a great defender either especially when he feels he's outmatched.
According to Patricia's NBA contracts Collins is a free agent too
After five season Collins is proven for what he does. Nazr isn't any better than Okur on D.
If they re-sign Collins for a reasonable amount there is no need for Nazr at all. They've better off getting one more cheap PF.
Those Collins brothers are world class stiffs.
