He passed away this morning.

"Ross M. Lence died peacefully this morning at 8:17 a.m. in Memorial Southwest Hospital in Houston.

Funeral arrangements will be posted here as soon as they are finalized."

That happened right as I drove by the hospital on my way to work. I'm glad his end was peaceful and that he was with his family. It is better for him not to be in pain anymore, but there are hundreds, thousands of his former students and colleagues who are the worse without him.
