Officials Make Largest Drug Bust in Middle Tennessee
It’s the largest marijuana drug bust in Middle Tennessee, and it's in the smallest county in the state.
Officials are on their way to Florida to pick up the third person in the drug operation, the District Attorney says could generate $8,000 per year.
Federal, state, and local investigators have shut down a huge pot growing and distribution operation in Trousdale County, in the Cato community. Officials there say marijuana was planted and growing in a cave that ran two miles long.
The head of this operation actually built his home above the cave, and had secret tunnels leading underground. The house had no furniture inside. The cave, 75 feet underground included underground offices, 800 marijuana plants, growing operations, cooling systems, heat lamps, and so much power it would sometimes knock out transformers to the entire community.
“ It’s a beautiful A frame house which was completely barren as far as furniture, built on top of a natural cave,” said Assistant District Attorney David Durham.
“This cave is really like something you’d see in a James Bond movie,” said Durham.
It’s enough marijuana to make those behind the operation millionaires.
“ I’ve prosecuted a lot of indoor operations. I’ve seen them under houses, in barns, but never ever would have thought of anything of this magnitude and this sophistication, this kind of money, especially in a little place like Trousdale, Tennessee.
Thousands of plants and more than $50,000 were found.
Three arrests have been made, but more are expected. Brian Gibson and Greg Compton are both in jail in Trousdale County facing drug charges. Officials are on the way to Florida to pick up the third defendant, Fred Strunk.
Members of the community say their small town has no room for drug dealers.
“I’m real proud that they caught them. And they got rid of it. So the kids around here and my grandkids maybe can have a safe environment to live in,” said Carolyn Harville. Harville runs the Dixon Spring Market.
The investigation has been going on for five years. This marijuana was not staying in the Trousdale county area. It was being trafficked out in a very sophisticated operation.
The two suspects who are in custody in Trousdale county are being held on $500,000 bond.
dang...thats a nice setup...
dayum.. where craig at? reading this makes smokey want to puff on something..
They must sell it cheap in Tennessee.Officials are on their way to Florida to pick up the third person in the drug operation, the District Attorney says could generate $8,000 per year.
says them s had enough to be millionaires.. they aint sellin it that cheap
that is the stupidest crap I;ve ever read.^^“I’m real proud that they caught them. And they got rid of it. So the kids around here and my grandkids maybe can have a safe environment to live in,” said Carolyn Harville. Harville runs the Dixon Spring Market.
agreed. Stupid people really annoy me.
the $8,000/year must be a typo because later in the article they said they found $50,000 cash in the house. They probably meant $80K or $800K or maybe $8,000/month.
Those heathens..![]()
Knowing the way cops price busts they probably meant 8 million a month. They might have a thousand kilos but price it by the street value of a single reef, and on plants they weigh the stems and roots too when they prosecute..but either way, that was a lot of bud...
yeah getting drugs off the street is "stupid"

lotta stoned cops in tennesee right now
Ya I dont get the pricing on that either. The first part says that the operation could generate $8000 a year, but then they say that there was enough weed to make them millionaires. I would say those cops took a couple million worth of pot for themselves...selfish bas s.
“I’m real proud that they caught them. And they got rid of it. So the kids around here and my grandkids maybe can run our moonshine business in peace,” said Carolyn Harville.
yeah because weed is what makes "the streets" unsafe for kids![]()
yeah, because weed is... oh so dangerous!
^^![]()
That is amazing.
We spoke about this house in school.
how did nobody notice all the 'construction' going on there?????
It is the smallest county in Tenn. so I reckon not everyone is thinking that building a new basement = massive drug operation.
So, who wants to rob dem cops and start our own business...we can call it "Happy Herbs from the Burbs Herb Service".
I'm in.
I wonder how they got busted, besides the obvious huge ammount of power they were using...
How is that stupid?
... That was a mastermind operation.
They same way 99% of "professional" dealers get busted, more than likely...some stoner down the retail supply chain got busted and rolled on them to get a better deal...
That's what I was thinking. Those dollar amounts sound reeeeeaalllly low (surely this is wrong?: "...could generate $8,000 per year.")
I think marijuana should be legalized. But, there is a process to have that happen. And, until it is, it is ILLEGAL to grow/sell/use.
