And the plot thickens...
Jackie may be Isiah's boy...but that doesn't mean Isiah is Jackie's.
I hope that the Spurs are one of these four teams.

New York Post - Free agent Jackie Butler, out of contract, is refusing to play with the Knicks in the summer league, the New York Post is reporting.
Keith Glass, Butler's agent, will meet with Isiah Thomas this weekend and contends four teams are willing to offer Butler more than the Knicks' $1 million qualifying offer.

Bidding war of 4 teams. I wonder how much he gets. He's smart not to go back to the Knicks. No brainer, really.
I would love for the Spurs to pick him up for half of the MLE.
That dude has always looked like 40 years old to me. He is only 21, but I bet with that mug he has been buying beer since the age of 13 or so.
Half an MLE would be reasonable. Knicks have last say though and they'd likley match. That's pocket change for most Knicks' players.
Isiah will match anything. Mark my words.
He thinks he can get a couple 2nd round picks for Butler. Likely he's right.
Spurs and bidding war are not terms that make me overly optimistic.
On a related note, is it typical for teams to order a player to summer league when they don't have him signed? Seems like you can't blame the kid for refusing to go, since the Knicks aren't looking like the most loyal organization right now.
Are we seriously going so low to get Butler? The Spurs aren't gonna have him as a player who will get a role players amount of minutes. We need to get someone better and I know they will try to get someone better.
The only thing that may stop the Knicks matching is their roster is almost full. They currently have 14 players under contract. They have Butler, Qyntel Woods and the MLE to spend. I can't imagine a year where NY doesn't spend the MLE.
I wouldn't be surprised if Thomas doesn't match a multi-year deal and just goes out and uses the MLE or signs Woods.
I don't see NYK using the MLE, to be honest. There's no one out there to use it on (I'm sure they'd love Bonzi) and as squiggy as Isiah is, he recognizes the roster is full to the gills. He's strangely high on Butler and is pretty possessive of him. Butler clearly wants out of Dodge, but Isiah will get someone to trade for him.
The Cavs are the one team that is willing to offer a longterm deal.
The Knicks have made a $1 million qualifying offer to free-agent center Jackie Butler, which allows them to match any offer he receives. So far, the Cavaliers are the only team believed to be considering a long-term offer.

Woods is unrestricted. Better shot of him walking.
Can't wait to see the Spurs signing not just for who they get but I still want them to show their hand on if they are taking on more than one year salary commitments.

BUSY ISIAH ALL QUIET ON FREE AGENTS
By MARC BERMAN
July 7, 2006 -- LAS VEGAS - Isiah Thomas is expending more energy on the basketball court coaching the Knicks than on the phone lines during July's free-agency period.
In a giant departure, Thomas is being passive with free agents while teams including Chicago and Toronto make bold moves. The whole thing reeks of James Dolan finally putting a cap on Thomas' NBA-high payroll.
Thomas feels the team is good enough as cons uted to make the playoffs. Kenyon Martin is still being shopped as fervently as ever by the Nuggets, but the Knicks are more lukewarm than ever because of his massive contract. Thomas isn't sure he'll use his $5 million mid-level exception, a telltale sign Dolan isn't keen on adding to the payroll.
"We have our eyes on a couple of situations," Thomas said. "We're not chasing anything. I'm pretty comfortable with what we have. It's definitely going to be tough. Everyone's getting better. We have to develop and get better from within."
Thomas has to decide whether to re-sign his two free agents, Jackie Butler and Qyntel Woods. Thomas can choose only one because both signings would put the team at 16 guaranteed contracts, one over the league maximum. Re-signing Butler is the priority, as Jerome James insurance.
Woods should be available without a fight.
And Jackie Butler will fight like to get away from the Knicks.
Qyntel Woods looks interesting if Pop is serious about playing small ball.
That really blows, but not surprising. RC saves Holt a ton of money by jetting Malik and then Rasho, then we can't bust the luxury cap by even 5 cents.
Woods should be available without a fight.not without a dog fight though, someone tell him fights are big down here and he'll sign for sure.
He has potential but his weight worries me-he could be another Oliver Miller or Keith Traylor.
He and Ely are the best of the rest.
He's not THAT ing heavy. Big O was 6'8" 300 when he came into the league, and it went up from there. 6'10" 260 is solid, not fat.
I like when people purposely misread things to try and create another argument. I said he could be not he would be or was. Have you seen him? He's definitely overweight the 260 lbs (If that's his weight) is more flab than muscle. I think he is a good player though just a concern.
