    Drink-driving beer boss censured

US beer magnate Peter Coors has had his licence revoked for driving under the influence of alcohol in the western state of Colorado. A hearing ruled that Mr Coors had failed to heed a stop sign in May and was driving while intoxicated.

Mr Coors, 59, admitted driving after consuming beer at a wedding.

"I made a mistake," Mr Coors said in a statement. "For years, I've advocated the responsible use of our company's products."

He added: "That's still my message, and our company's message. I'm sorry I didn't follow it myself."

His spokeswoman, Kabira Hatland, said Mr Coors had failed to stop at the sign and when he reached his driveway in Golden he was stopped by a police officer.

Mr Coors was found to have a blood alcohol level of 0.088%. Colorado sets 0.08% as the level for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Mr Coors will be arraigned on 20 July and has 30 days to appeal against the revocation order.

He could have his licence suspended for up to a year, but as he has no previous convictions, he is more likely to face a 90-day ban.

He became chief executive of Coors in 2000. He is now on the board of directors of the merged Molson Coors Brewing Co, which has net sales of more than $5.6bn (£3bn).

    Sucks for him.

He must have drank a ton of beers. I've pounded plenty of Coors Lights and never been buzzed.

0.09 is a LOT of blood alcohol.

In most European countries, 0.05 is the limit, making the 0.08 common in USA appear very permissive.

That really doesn't mean that he had very much to drink. If he's not that big of a guy, it could have easily taken him as little as 3 beers to get to that level.

.08 is usually just a couple of beers for most people. I've got a breathalyzer that I blow in for fun. .08 is easily reached.
