Young Welsh Muslims aren't the only ones starting to have their doubts about the seriousness of the hijacking plot...

YOUNG Welsh Muslims have accused the Government of master-minding this week's plot to blow up transatlantic jets mid-air to justify Tony Blair's war on terror.

Some followers of Islam have claimed the arrest of more than 20 people on su ion of scheming to kill thousands of passengers travelling to America using liquid explosives is designed to bolster the Prime Minister's flagging credibility over the Iraq and Lebanon-Israel crises.

"I believe this so-called plot is all a fabrication aimed at covering up the actions of George Bush and Tony Blair," said Abdul Ullah, 26. "Sadly, people will believe whatever they are told these days."

Dr Sam Ben, 29, added: "As far as I can make out, people have been arrested but none have been charged with anything or were caught at the scene of any crime. I believe the whole operation has been a smoke-screen."

That the British aren't able to charge the 24 suspects after investigating, and probably influtrating the group for months is very peculiar. Bliar's government is even having to go back and 'reinterprete' their anti-civil liberties law to hold them for 90 days without charges.

Young Welsh Muslims aren't the only ones starting to have their doubts about the seriousness of the hijacking plot...
Quotes from other Muslims found in the article:

Other Muslims, however, refute the idea, believing Islam's real enemy are the extremists responsible for the alleged plot.

Plaid Cymru councillor for Riverside in Cardiff Mohammed-Sarul Islam said: "These kind of people give Muslims a bad name. It's just a minority courting more bad feeling and resentment towards the rest of us. The first word in Islam is peace and this kind of behaviour is disgraceful."

Asghar Javad Ali, chairman of Madina Mosque in Cardiff, said: "I've never seen any mad men like that, and if this thing is a hoax or just more false intelligence then it wouldn't be the first time.

"If there is a contingent of Muslims behind all this then it's a very small one, and in doing it they're killing Islam.

"Our religion's number one priority is to look after all human beings, not just other Muslims." <----Too bad they don't all feel this way

Like dubya, Blair is in deep and unpopular due to his kissing dubya's ass into Iraq.

The Repugs have politicized 9/11 and used trumped up terror alerts exlusively for political advantage, rather than truly, seriously pursuing the war on terror

One reason the Brits wanted to let the plotters go on further (they didn't yet have tickets and some didn't have passports) is that they thought the evidence wasn't strong enough for convictions, but they folded to dubya's pressure to blow it open only a couple days after a senior pro-war Democrat lost his primary for his pro-war stance.

“As the British terror plot was unfolding,” reports The Associated Press, “the Bush administration quietly tried to take away $6 million that was supposed to be spent this year developing new explosives detection technology.”

Amid U.K. terror plot, administration targeted anti-terror technology funds

WASHINGTON - As the British terror plot was unfolding, the Bush administration quietly tried to take away $6 million that was supposed to be spent this year developing new explosives detection technology.

Congressional leaders rejected the diversion of funds, the latest in a series of Homeland Security Department steps that have left lawmakers and some of the department’s own experts questioning the commitment to create better an error technologies.

Homeland Security’s research arm, the Sciences & Technology Directorate, is a “rudderless ship without a clear way to get back on course,” Republican and Democratic senators on the Appropriations Committee declared recently.

    ...

The administration also was slow to start testing a new liquid explosives detector that the Japanese government provided to the United States earlier this year.
    MSNBC

Even before the British arrests, U.S. intelligence must have known that his group was planning an attack using (liquid) explosions and aircraft, yet the adminstration tried to cut funding for explosives screening and specialized explosive detectors at airports.

British wanted to continue surveillance on terror suspects, official says
(do we have a probably cause issue here?)
    August 12, 2006

LONDON - NBC News has learned that U.S. and British authorities had a significant disagreement over when to move in on the suspects in the alleged plot to bring down trans-Atlantic airliners bound for the United States.

A senior British official knowledgeable about the case said British police were planning to continue to run surveillance for at least another week to try to obtain more evidence, while American officials pressured them to arrest the suspects sooner. The official spoke on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the case.

In contrast to previous reports, the official suggested an attack was not imminent, saying the suspects had not yet purchased any airline tickets. In fact, some did not even have passports.

The source did say, however, that police believe one U.K.-based suspect was ready to conduct a "dry run." British authorities had wanted to let him go forward with part of the plan, but the Americans balked.

At the White House, a top aide to President Bush denied the account.
    MSNBC

    Most did not have passports.
No stock of explosive ingredients has been found.
Testing thoroughness of liquid bombs in doubt.
    Tickets not purchased.

Yep, seems like an open and shut case to me....

Looks like the British pulling the trigger to early, thanks to the WH, may force them to release some terra suspects for a lack of evidence. Already one has been released.

UK police release bomb plot suspect

"British police have released one of the 24 suspects in the London bomb plot without charge, but have been granted permission to hold 22 people until next Wednesday."

Well darn Dan, I guess they should've waited until they blew up the planes - then you idiot libs would believe the plot was "for real." Of course, then you would be squawking and screaming about the inept govt that allowed this horrible tragedy to happen! There's just no pleasing you guys!

Don't you mean that there is no pleasing the Brits who wanted to extend the investigation a bit further before moving in on the suspects? What about the 5 suspects that got away, what if waiting would have netted these 5 suspects too?

What if waiting had resulted in the deaths of thousands of innocent civilians? Would it have been worth it just to apprehend those remaining five terrorists?

What if we come to find that these 5 remaining suspects were the main plotters and financiers for the plot and those that are in custody were peons?

Not relevant, Dear Leader needed the boost in political capital so the plot needed to be revealed to coincide with Darth Cheney's edict on the Lieberman loss.

Then you will be really happy, but not as happy as you'd been if the attack had been successful. Then you could post up all the articles about how it's the administration's fault. Egg on the president's face is, of course, worth a few thousand American lives, eh?

There are stories out there that the administration pushed the Brits to move more quickly than they (the Brits) intended. I would say Bush has some influence with Tony Blair.

Dan would have been jumping for joy on here about more Amerikans losing their lives to the jihad, and to top it all off he would have blamed it on Bush.

"Dumbya takes credit for making America safer"

This week dubya said "America is safer (subtext: because I made it safer) but America is not safe (subtext: because there's an election soon and Karl told me to keep scaring the out of everybody and to keep exploiting the war on terr exclusively for partisan Repug advantage (while cutting funds for explosive detection research) )
