I would guess don't eat for three days!![]()
Has anyone on this forum attempted to eat this meal at the Big Texan Steak Ranch in Amarillo? I'm sure most of you already know that the meal (W/baked potato, Shrimp tail, Dinner roll) is free if eaten in under an hour.
Has anyone succeeded?
Just curious since I'm going to give it a try when I visit Texas in January.
Any tips on how to prepare for this feast?

In a thread a few days (week?) ago, there was a link to a story about some wafer-thin girl who ate a big-ass burger.
In fact, it might come up if you search for "big-ass burger."
I can't remember which thread it was off the top of my head or I'd link you to it, but if you search my recent posts or search for the term "burger," you'll probably find it.
It was the post for Krystal's Burgers or whatever.
And the tip for not eating for 3 days - bad idea. That will shrink your stomach.
Best way to prepare would be to eat as much food as you can, in portions that are measured out ... you need to get the estimated amount of food and then just start building up to it. That asian dude that wins the hot dog compe ions eats some crazy amount of food for like a week before hand, and something that would be considered "easy" to digest.
Do a google search for 15lb burger.
It is at a place called Denny's in Pennsylvania.
uhhh....you realize thats almost 5 pounds of beef, right? Why exactly would you want to do that?![]()
I always think of what it must feel like if you almost finish it, but don't quite. Then you get the honor of paying to get physically ill. No thanks.
Yeah, thats even worse than not paying to intentionally make yourself ill. Theres nothing quite like making a special trip to Amarillo friggen Texas so you can projectile vomit 5 pounds of beef chunks.

(As of April 2006)
About 7,000 people have succeeded in eating the 72 oz. steak (since 1960)
Almost 42,000 people have attempted to consume the Free 72 oz. steak (since 1960)
About two women each year successfully eat the steak (About 50% of the women who try are successful. So about four or five women make the attempt each year.)
Frank Pastore, who was a professional pitcher for the Cincinnati Reds, ate the complete steak dinner in 9 and 1/2 minutes. (May 3, 1987) Pastore actually has eaten the steak dinner seven times. On his first effort, in February 1976, he finished the steak in 21 minutes.
The oldest person to eat the steak was a 69 year-old grandmother.
The youngest person to eat the steak was an 11 year-old boy.
Klondike Bill, a professional wrestler, consumed two of the dinners in the one hour time limit back in the 1960s.
The Big Texan Steak Ranch serves the meat from about 10,000 head of cattle every year. (One steer weighing about 1,200 to 1,400 pounds, produces about 400 lbs. of steak.)
The Big Texan puts about 208,000 lb (or 104 tons) of meat on serving plates each year.
Carlene and Richard Lefevre, a couple from Henderson, NV, have eaten the steak dinner at least 10 times since their first attempt 1995. Both of them usually complete the meal in less than 30 minutes.
When I was in HS in San Antonio, IHOP had Monday night "all you can eat" deals.
One summar four of us decided go for the house record, which was something like 26 pancakes.
I was the first one to drop out, at about 17. (My excuses was I was the smallest, plus I was driving.)
Next guy stopped at about 20. Third guy went to ~22. The last guy was forcing it down while we were egging him on. He was down to the last bite of pancake #27, and his face was literally almost green. He was holding up the last forkful to his mouth, saying "don't . . . think . . . I . . . can . . . do . . . it", and then bent his head and barfed in his plate. We all went "ewwwww!", and then his face brightened and he said, "Now it's easy!" and finished the last bite.
The IHOP wouldn't give him credit, though.
The drive on the way back was like being with three dogs, all with their heads out the window. Every time I hit a rough spot they'd almost gack.
a 72oz steak, get me a 72oz beer.
and you people wonder why there's an obesity epidemic in your country... 15 lbs of steak... yeah, I could eat for two weeks with that
I remember seeing a show about this and some other places to eat big. I think it was on about a week ago.
I was actually just at this place about a month ago. I didn't try this steak, I went with a 16 oz strip steak instead, and I must say I was not impressed.
I also thought it was amusing when my waitress tried to convince me that there was no way Kobayashi could eat one. I told her to call up the ESPN crew and set it up.
