Shoplifting...Are there any cops here?

My friend was caught shoplifting tonight at Macy's. He was stealing 150 dollars worth of stuff. He is 20 years old and it was his first offense of any kind. The cops eventually came and wrote him up but did not take him to jail, suprisingly. He has a court date in a few weeks. He has already been put on probation of some sort and is banned from all retail stores.

So cops, or anyone else who knows about this, what do you think will happen? A $1000 fine maybe?

hope the dude gets at least a month in jail. That will teach him. What the was he thinking? ask him that for me, I really want to know
