For whatever reason, after long periods of drought we almost always have a big flood here. Well, Don't be suprised if by Tuesday we're seeing images of the rivers around here flooding. Its going to be a very very wet weekend.

I say it all the time in real life and I think I've even posted it here before.

Whenever it doesn't rain for a long time it's ended by monsoon type weather that floods the city which is why I always get a laugh when the weather people get concerned over the aquifer.

Concern over the aquifer has to do with problems that arise when it drops down so far. There is reduced flow in all of the rivers, which really hurts people downstream in regards to water rights and the like. The species that are affected in the springs are also impacted big time.

I believe when it is low there is an added impact of pollution as well, but I'm not completely sure.

Anyhow, there is no concern over running out of water in the aquifer but it is about the impacts of an aquifer level that is too low.

No, I understand, it's just when they say something (usually Steve Browne) like "We sure need to get something soon."

I'm like don't worry, the streets and rivers will be flooded in no time.

I always seems that in this area it is usually feast or famine rain-wise. We aways seem to get too much rain right after drought. we never seem to get a happy in between.

If y'all don't believe in floodong come to Seguin after about an hour of a good solid half in of rain after a drought. I didn't even think about it until just now. I will be getting out my pretty rain boots for class on Monday.

There are a few flaws in your argument. First - it is not that the river's have a reduced flow BECAUSE of a lower aquifer level, but exactly the recipricol. The aquifer is reduced because of a lack of raifall and flow in the rivers and drainage into the aquifer recharge zones. The aquifer level has no inherent tie to river flow therefor can not be scientifically tied to problems caused by the like. 2nd - The only major threat when aquifer levels are reduced to conservation levels is the animal life specific to the caverns in the aquifers. There are no proven studies that form a relation between aquifer levels and pollution. When we have to reduce our water usage - it's to save a salamander that most of us will never EVER see. And no Manny..... it will not flood this weekend.

I suck, it barely even rained this weekend. It will probably start raining within the hour, though.

It's dark over in my area now (bab & 410/st. cloud area). I hope we get some good rain!

Edit: We're getting it now. Oh how I missed the rain.

It's coming down pretty hard over here at Ingram. And we are now living in the end of a cul-de-sac at the bottom of a hill. Oh, f*ck. The things you don't think of too late But at least the yard will be pretty again
