That's what I figured, too. I live in Cedar Park but I'll be in S.A. this weekend. Guess I'll be at Tex's Sports Bar (that place is still around, right? it's in the Hilton or something on Blanco/410) this Sunday to catch the Vikes/Bears matchup.

Just from what I overheard at the office, San Antonio won't be getting the Houston game.

    Yeah, here's the story.

Football: Texans' ratings no good for Fox

With the Dallas Cowboys not playing this weekend, the Houston Texans figured to have the state's TV spotlight all to themselves. But not in San Antonio.

KABB, the local Fox affiliate, announced Wednesday it's scrapping plans to broadcast the Texans-Washington Redskins game at noon Sunday in favor of what station officials consider a more attractive matchup — the Chicago Bears against the Minnesota Vikings.

No matter that Houston is less than 200 miles away, Chicago is more than 1,000 miles to the north and Minneapolis is practically in Canada.

"That's disappointing," Texans owner Bob McNair said. "We have a lot of fans in San Antonio and South Texas. They're going to be the losers in all this. They're going to miss out on a good game."

Fox and KABB disagree. The Texans and Redskins are both 0-2. The Bears and Vikings, traditional NFC North rivals, are both 2-0.

KABB general manager John Seabers said the change was the decision of network executives whose goal is to provide viewers with the best game.

He said KABB has a say in those decisions. But this time, he said, "we didn't argue."

Said Seabers: "The Texans simply don't do very well (in the ratings) here."

San Antonio is regarded by NFL and network officials as a secondary market for the Cowboys. Ratings for Dallas' regular-season games here are among the highest for any NFL team in any market.

If forced to choose between a Texans game and a Cowboys game, Seabers said, "We wouldn't even be having this discussion."

On Sunday, CBS and local affiliate KENS televised the Texans' game against the Indianapolis Colts. But after the Colts took a 27-3 lead early in the second half, the network switched to the Buffalo-Miami contest.

Bob McGann, president and general manager for KENS, confirmed the decision to switch was made by the network. But he said unlike KABB, his station isn't ready to give up on the Texans.

KENS is airing Cincinnati at Pittsburgh on Sunday. McGann said he already has made the decision to televise the Texans' game in Houston on Oct. 1 against Miami, no matter what records the teams bring into the game.

"We have the option to take a different game," McGann said. "But we view ourselves as the Texans' station. We consider them the local team. If later in the season they're 0-8, we might feel differently."

Now in their fifth year, the Texans have struggled to attract an audience outside of the Houston area. While McNair is disappointed Sunday's game won't be televised in San Antonio, he admits the franchise controls its own television destiny.

"If we play better and create a demand," he said, "(the networks) don't have to make that decision."

So if you had Sunday ticket the Chicago - Minn game would be blacked out in San Antonio? That's funny. Goes to show - nobody likes a loser. , they did this to themselves... if they had taken either VY or Bush I guarantee people would be watching a lot more than now. This wouldn't be an issue there.

Damn, I was really looking foward to watching Reggie Bush play for Houston.

    (P.S. I'm still in denial)

This would be the right week to show Houston with no Dallas game on.
