On NFL.com, I think this might mean a huge game from TO, especially after he said he needed to step up the second half of the season. He and Witten, will have huge games, Crayton will have a td catch as well. Cards wont be able to move the ball, Lienart will throw at least 2 picks, and the Boys will get back over 500. T.O.,11catches, 156 yards, 2 tds. Boys win 31-10, Glenn comes back just in time to make the Colts 9-1.

Will Sam Hurd Start or Crayton?

  3. #3
All Parcels said was thyat either could play the position, although the easy guess would be Crayton. Hurd will for sure see some time though I would think

Did Glenn aggravate his existing injury during the game?

  5. #5
No, he did it during practice. I think this could be a good thing for a game though, let TO have a chance to have a huge make up game, and maybe get better game chemistry with Romo

Good. I thought they should have kept Glenn out of the last game because I thought he'd aggravate it. Glad that didn't happen.

It would seem like Glenn is the one who needs some chemistry with Romo. At least he actually catches the passes that come his way.

  7. #7
True, maybe he does need a little work with Romo, and he has still managed to have a decent 1st half, 450 yards and 4 tds. I just think TO needs to have a big game where he is the main option. He has had some big drops this year, but he is still putting together a great year and he vowed to play better the rest of the year. Antrell Rolle is somewhere crying in a corner

Too bad TO didn't vow not to drop passes at the beginning of the year, because what he needs to do is NOT drop wide open passes in critical situations.

Well, I heard John Clayton report it on ESPN, but I suppose Crayton could still start. I thought Crayton would start for sure, but Clayton knows his . Maybe he meant that Hurd would just be suiting up for him, but that wasnt how he said it

Yeah Im sure, I also read that Glenn has a 75% chance of playing, but I guess we will see

Glenn Possible Game-Time Decision Against Cardinals

IRVING, Texas - Cowboys head coach Bill Parcells doesn't have much experience behind his top three wide receivers, but says he's comfortable calling on his young reserves if Terry Glenn (quadriceps) is unable to play Sunday against Arizona.

Glenn missed portions of team practice for the third straight day with knee chondromalacia, or irritation under the lining of his kneecap where the quadriceps muscle attaches. The veteran receiver still is listed as probable, though he likely will be a game-time decision for the second consecutive week.

Parcells has been pleased with the progress of rookies Sam Hurd and Miles Austin, who could take on larger roles at University of Phoenix Stadium (3:15 p.m. CST) depending on Glenn's availability.

"The younger players have come along," Parcells said of his two rookie free-agent receivers. "They've started to come along pretty well."

Glenn's injury landed him on the injury report last Friday, but he started against Washington and had three catches for 26 yards, including a 10-yard touchdown in the second quarter of the Cowboys' 22-19 loss. Parcells did not decide to suit up Glenn until he worked out for trainers about two hours before game time.

If Glenn doesn't play, the Cowboys (4-4) would be without their second-leading receiver and top deep threat for the last leg of their three-game road trip against the struggling Cardinals (1-7). The Cowboys are looking to finish their trip 2-1 and inch back above .500 before coming home to play two games in a five-game stretch against Indianapolis (8-0) and Tampa Bay (2-6) on Thanksgiving Day.

Hurd, a rookie free agent out of Northern Illinois, likely would start in Glenn's place, with Patrick Crayton remaining the third receiver. Glenn trails only Terrell Owens with 36 catches for 456 yards and four touchdowns.

Even if Glenn is active, Parcells said he might have to take some "insurance" with him to Arizona.

Austin, another undrafted rookie out of Monmouth University, is a strong candidate to return kickoffs against the Cardinals along with running backs Marion Barber and Keylon Kincade. Austin had limited return experience in high school and college, but Parcells likes his size, speed and toughness.

"I think he has tremendous potential as a player," Parcells said. "I think when he first got here it was a little too big for him, but he's settling down a little bit and it seems better and better in practice. Hopefully, we can get him involved."

Skyler Green returned kickoffs and punts against the Redskins, but Parcells said the rookie running back is mostly confined to the return game. Austin can play special teams and serve as a backup receiver, making him a potential asset Sunday despite his limited experience.

"It's a lot different because the school I'm from I was pretty much the biggest and strongest guy there - and I was a wideout too," Austin said of his transition to the NFL. "Everyone's just bigger and faster. It's a little bit different. But other than that, football's football."

Austin only has been active for one game, but Hurd has been a solid special teams contributor since sitting out the regular-season opener at Jacksonville.

"I know my role in the offense," said Hurd, who also was named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week against Carolina after he caused and recovered the Panthers' fumbled kickoff return, which led to a touchdown. "When I'm needed, I'm going to step up and play. When I'm not needed, I'm going to do my best on special teams to help us win."

Hurd has one catch for 33 yards so far this season, that coming on Tony Romo's first NFL completion near the end of the Cowboys' 34-6 victory over Houston. He started the final three preseason games in place of an injured Owens but also knows how to play Glenn's position.

Crayton also knows Glenn's spot, but Parcells has said he wants Crayton to remain the third receiver and play 30-35 snaps per game. The third-year wideout averages a team-high 15.2 yards per catch and has increased his production the last four games, catching 13 passes for 227 yards.

"We ask Crayton to do quite a bit of things physically when he's in the game, probably more so than the other receivers," Parcells said. "That's another thing that takes a little more wear and tear on him."

Hurd quickly impressed Parcells with his knowledge of multiple positions, which he began learning in the off-season. He said after mini-camp, his coaches told him to learn everything.

"They'd seen I was doing it already, so they were like, 'Learn all of them if you can,'" Hurd said. "The more I can do to help this team is the best I can do. I want to do the best I can and just show my versatility."

Parcells might need that versatility if Glenn isn't in the lineup Sunday afternoon.

    why wouldn't crayton start?
Because if you start Crayton, you screw up two positions. You have Crayton move to a #2, and Hurd (or whoever) pick up the #3. But, put Hurd in at #2, and let Crayton stay where he knows (as a #3) and only have one player playing 'out of position.'

And it's not as easy as just shuffling it around. It's a completely different position altogther. The more you move around, the more mistakes there are.

agreed, i was looking at it the wrong way. i think crayton's a pretty good player, can be very productive when healthy and when the attention is on glenn and owens.

That is 100% correct. Why screw around with two WR positions when you only have to change one. Crayton is still learning to be the 3rd receiver.

Parcells also said that Crayton is asked to do a lot more in the third reciever spot physically than the other recievers and I imagine Hurd cant do those things. And where is Jamaica Rector, they should activate him instead

well currently the choice is up to Parcells. right now Glenn has approximately a 16.2394067201948642% chance of playing as of now 6:36 CST, however if the sum of the fluid balance in his knee is balanced out with the square root of the radius of his knee cap equally than he could be upgraded to an exponentially greater product of 34.65467239647241%. league insiders have informed me that Hurd will probly start if he can memorize the quota of approximately 956 plays between now and 11:00 AM CST on Sunday otherwise the job will most likely shift to Crayton.
