Sources: Owners still back Coughlin as coachESPN.com news services
The Giants' owners don't think Tom Coughlin has lost his team and as a result, he won't lose his job, ESPN's Chris Mortensen is reporting.
Team sources told Mortensen that Coughlin isn't in hot water with the Giants' owners, because despite all the noise coming from the locker room this week, they don't believe Coughlin is losing his team.
One official said, "Our players may not like him, but they do respect him … and you can see that every day in the facility and on the practice field."
Ownership sees no similarities to the collapse that led to previous coach Jim Fassel's dismissal -- and unless this Giants team also quits in the final month, Coughlin should get a contract extension at the end of the season.
