They keep voting Yao Ming in the all star game. WHY? Hes garbage yet all the china people in this country keep voting him like hes the best in the league. How the did he get the most votes again? I'm tired of this crap!
    The voting system sucks.

If Bin Laden was the worst overrated ball player playing in the NBA, do you think the arabs would vote for him to play in the all star game?

I still say foreign votes should count as 1/2 a vote, whether or not that makes a difference, who knows. But since the NBA is trying to be a "global" sport, ing won't help.

I posted this in the Spurs forum, but same reply ..

Every year people blame the Chinese people for stuffing the online ballot boxes for Yao Ming via the internet. But in actuality for a few years Yao has been winning by the paper ballots at the arenas, not by the web ballots.

    For example ..

In fact, for the 2004 All-Star Game, the year in which Yao won the starting spot by the smallest margin in his career, he actually received around 4,000 fewer online votes than his rival, Shaquille O'Neal. Yao managed to make up for this by outvoting O'Neal in paper balloting. These paper ballots were handed out in NBA arenas and shopping malls in the United States and Chinese fans were unable to vote on them. Thanks to paper balloting, Yao went on to finish ahead of O'Neal that year by a margin of 29,000 votes overall.

I actually think Yao deserves it this year. He's averaging 26 and 10 right now, right?

I'd tend to agree. The Chinese vote does seem a bit slanted.

I find anti-foreigner threads like this insulting.

If Bin Laden was the worst overrated ball player playing in the NBA, do you think the arabs would vote for him to play in the all star game?
    1. That makes no sense because Yao is clearly one of the top 3 centres in the league, and often a beast. Explain exactly why he's over-rated.

    2. Why should foreign votes count for less? We follow the game just as closely, we buy the games and merchandise. , people like alamo50, slomo and I travel thousands of miles just to see our favourite players play! Do you demonstrate commitment like that, or are you just a hater?

    3. Kori already pointed out your misnomer.

    4. This is just racism dressed up as basketball commentary.

I'm half Asian, but I don't find this thread insulting. I wouldn't doubt that the Chinese would admit to voting for Yao based on his heritage alone.

My reference to racism referred more specifically to this idea, and the irrelevant Bin Laden analogy I quoted.

The fact that the OP can't even call people from China "Chinese" is also pretty insulting.

I have no doubt that many Chinese vote for Yao because he's Chinese, and I don't see anything wrong with that.

WTF dude, what's wrong with all these dumb Americans voting in guys who haven't played all frickin' season (Shaq, Mihm, Gasol). They did the same thing the year that MJ retired, voting in Vince Carter as a starter when he hadn't even played a game leading up to the All-Star game. Yao is having a great year, mind your own business and stop ing just because no one wants anyone form your ty team as an All-Star.

    Too many nots.

BTW, 25% of players in the NBA are now internationals.

STFU is in order I think.

Why are people so damn xenophobic? We're all human beings! Cultural relativity I understand, racism and xenophobia I will never get.

Many people do have a problem with that because they feel the All-Star game should be a game based on a player's performance and contributions to a team, not because of his heritage. Personally, I do not believe 13 points and 8 rebounds a game merited Yao starting over Shaq in 2003 and, take it from me, I'm no Shaq fan.

It's based on popularity. Nothing more, nothing less. If it was based on performance, fans wouldn't vote - it would be done by a statistical formula. And you know what? That formula would probably pick Yao this year.

Oh just stfu, childs. There aren't a lot of good centers in the league, and Yao's having a great year - he's averaging 20 and 10, I believe.
You can't refer to people of a different race than you like they're somehow less worthy than you because of it. I'm part Chinese and I *gasp* don't vote for Yao - please, just shut it, seriously.

I'm aware that it's a popularity contest; that's why I said that people feel it should be more about a player's performance than his heritage. It's true, Yao is having a good year. Childs has a point though - you can argue that he deserves it this year, but what about 2003 like I said?

With the rising importance of small ball, we can honestly say the position of center is dying
