Priest Holmes
Can you guys help me compile a list of NFL players (current or notable past players) that are from San Antonio?
Either born here, played high school ball here, or whatever.
Thanks.
Ty Detmer, Southwest HS, Darryl Grant, Highlands, 2 super bowl rings with Redskins, Willie Mitc born in SA in 1940, Wheatley High, won a super bowl with the Chiefs
Priest, Sam Hurd, Carlyle Holiday, Ty Detmer
My classmate Darryl Grant went to Highlands (class of 1977) and played line for the Redskins for around a decade.
Jerheme Urban played at Trinity and got a few games in at WR with the Seahawks. Currently on the Cowboys' practice squad/reserve list for next season.
Marvin Upshaw, Trinity: A Little All-American and All-Texas defensive end for the Tigers in 1966 and 1967. Earned All-Southland Conference honors for three years in football. Nicknamed the "Maroon Mauler," Upshaw was the top draft pick of the National Football League's Cleveland Browns in 1968, who he played for in 1968 and 1969; then was a standout for the Kansas City Chiefs from 1970 to 1975 - also played for the St. Louis Cardinals in 1976.
The kid who played QB at Lee ... Tommy (?) Kramer, played ball for Minnesota.
There is a San Antonio Sports Hall of Fame (though they don't seem to list all their members anywhere), a good source for this sort of info.

Yeah, Kramer, I went to Lee way after he was there, but he was viewed as a legend
Warren McVea, played at Brack in the 60's, played on the KC Chiefs' SB IV-winning team
Tommy Nobis, Jefferson in the early 60's, played for the Falcons and named to the all-decade team of the '60s.
Cody Carlson, Churchill early 80's, backed up Warren Moon with the Oilers for 5 or 6 years.
And Trey Darilek, a buddy of mine from high school, went to Lee, played 2 years with the Eagles, and is now on the practice squad for the Dolphins
Keith and Kerry Cash from Holmes.
Keith played TE with Pittsburgh and KC
Kerry played TE with Indy, Oak and Chi.
Scott Ankrom from Jay was a WR with Dallas.
Jimmie Hawkins from Holmes was a DB with NE.
Lyle and Glenn Blackwood from Churchill.
Glenn played DB for Miami
Lyle played DB for Cincy, Seattle, the Baltimore Colts and Miami.
Found this listing of players born in SA at http://www.city-data.com/city/San-Antonio-Texas.html:
Anthony Alabi - 2005 NFL player (Miami Dolphins, born: Feb 16, 1981), Kliff Kingsbury - 2005 NFL player (Denver Broncos, born: Aug 9, 1979), Koy Detmer - 2005 NFL player (Philadelphia Eagles, born: Jul 5, 1973), Will Witherspoon - 2005 NFL player (Carolina Panthers, born: Aug 19, 1980), Logan Kensing - 2005 Major League Baseball player (Florida Marlins, born: Jul 3, 1982), Erik Flowers - 2005 NFL player (Atlanta Falcons, born: Mar 1, 1978), Corey Sears - 2005 NFL player (Houston Texans, born: Apr 15, 1973)
Dwyane Missouri played at Roosevelt and spent some time with the Ravens and Cowboys and is currently with the Philadelphia Soul of the AFL.
Anthony Hutchinson who played at Judson was Walter Payton's back-up for a couple years..
Eric Brown, Derwin Gray and Cory Sears, also from Judson..
Alex Van Pelt was mostly a backup but played some QB for Buffalo. He went to Churchill. Was named All-City QB one year....didn't deserve it but got it.
Not that I am bitter or anything.![]()
Wane McGarity was a stud for a little bit with the Cowboys. Former Clark HS wideout
ND Kalu is with the Texans -- he played at Marshall. Back in the day, Marshall also sent John Hagy to the NFL, where he stuck with the Bills for a few years.
Here's a list I found in another thread -- I think most have already been mentioned here. This is just in the last 10-20 years.
John Hagy - Marshall
Cody Carlson - Churchill
Ty Detmer - Southwest
Keith Cash - Holmes
Kerry Cash - Holmes
Tony Darden - Holmes
Sammy Morris - Jay
Chris Bordano - Southwest
Priest Holmes - Marshall
N.D. Kalu - Marshall
Ronald Flemons - Marshall
Wane McGarity - Clark
A.J. Johnson - Clemens
Erik Flowers - Roosevelt
Dwayne Missouri - Roosevelt
Alex Van Pelt - Churchill
Corey Sears - Judson
Eric Brown - Judson
Mitc Price - Madison
Eric Brown from Judson had to have had one of the nicest familys in my neighborhood, they lived and I think still do off of FM78 in the old Ventura subdivision, dude was a baller and you'd always see his escalade with Colorado plates parked outside when he played for the Broncos
He's from vic but played his college ball here.
also with Seattle for a bit.Back in the day, Marshall also sent John Hagy to the NFL, where he stuck with the Bills for a few years.
I had forgotten about his tenure in Seattle, mikey. Good catch. He was also in Kansas City's camp one year, I think.
He did play in Super Bowl XXV with the Bills, though. I'll never forget that I watched that game with a bunch of guys from Buffalo and a bunch of guys from New Jersey who were rooting for and against the teams, but early in the game, ABC posted a list of the players who had family members serving in Desert Storm -- John's brother-in-law was a high school teammate of mine, Chris Torres, so unlike anyone else in my watching party, I could actually say that a friend of mine had his name thrown out during the Super Bowl broadcast.
Okay -- so that's not much, but it was at least something.
cedric griffin CB for texas now with minnesota
That's the one I was going to say - San Antonio Holmes - grad. '01 I believe
