    Tie Up That Dog

    Techniguy 11-09-2004

Exit polling claims "Moral Values" as the most important issue to voters but was it really, or does the poll give a false impression? It is clear that the 22% of those polled who chose moral values as the most important issue, 80% voted for Bush while only 18% voted for Kerry. This tends to confirm that the left does not consider moral values an important issue in today's society. This shouldn't be too surprising to anyone since they seem to think that this issue is only about gays and abortion according to the post election rhetoric. Either you understand and practice moral values in your daily life or you don't. If you don't, then it's hard to understand how Bush could have won on this issue. The reality is, he didn't, the poll just makes it look that way. This is not to say that the moral values of President Bush were not obvious and played a significant part in his reelection, but we need to take a closer look at the exit poll.

The first column shows the issues and what percent of the total each issue received. The following columns show what percent of the first column were from Bush and Kerry (& Nader) supporters. but there's a problem here. Notice how "Taxes" is an issue on it's own, but "Jobs" is grouped in with "Economy". Jobs and Taxes are both elements of the Economy and therefor there should be only one 'general' issue here; "Economy". Group them together and it totals 25%, more than "Moral Values" which is also a 'general' issue. Likewise, "Iraq" is an element of the "Terrorism" issue and should be included there giving a total to Terrorism of 34%. The poll mixes 'elements' of issues with 'general' issues and when you do that, the 'general' issue always wins. Education and Health Care were apparently not considered big issues in this election. The resulting poll really looks more like this:

    Education (4%)
    Terrorism (34%)
    Economy (25%)
    Moral Values (22%)
    Health Care (8%)

Notice that both totals add up to only 93%. Is something missing? Where is the other 7%? Perhaps the questionnaire included "Other" that isn't shown in the results? Are these really the only important issues to voters? What about Homeland Security? Isn't that an important issue? How about frivolous law suits, did you consider that in deciding how to vote? I'm sure many professionals and small business owners did. The results of a poll has allot to do with how the questions are framed and what questions are asked as well as the multiple choice answers offered. I'm sure you've all answered questionnaires where none of the answers given were really how you would answer the question but you had to choose one.

The reason I bring this up is because Democrats have seized on this poll to make the claim that Bush supporters are all phobes and opposed to women’s rights to control their own bodies. They are also promoting the idea that Conservatives are all Evangelical Christian Bible thumpers who practice supers ion over science and are just plain stupid for voting for President Bush who they portray as some monk in a monastery trying to turn our democracy into a theocracy. This is because Democrats have lost their faith and moral values, they've even lost their political values. They are a party of lost souls looking for direction now. They are the last people who should be criticizing others when they can't even get their own house in order. They don't understand why Kerry lost the election but never think about why Bush won it. They are trying to reinforce their own mistaken beliefs by putting down conservatives. With no understanding of American and moral values, they are just like John Kerry, always groping for something to latch onto. They're like ants floating on water trying to find dry ground. The dry ground is where the Republicans stand and the liberals certainly can't agree with them so they just keep swimming around and splashing water at us.

They are telling the President that now that he's won the election, he has to reach out across the isle to Democrats to unit the country. WRONG! President Bush tried that after his 2000 victory and it didn't work, they just got meaner and more hateful and divided the country even more. If President Bush reaches out across the isle it should be to slap the liberals. It's time for the Democrats to reach out across the isle and try to unite the country that they divided, by showing more cooperation with the President and party in power. Bush won, and he owes it to the people who voted for him to pursue the agenda he promised in the campaign, not to compromise with the losers and their agenda. They lost, their agenda of socialism and internationalism lost! Why is the liberal media acting like they won and think the winners should bow to their demands? Is that how it works in their alternate reality? I guess they think so. The Democrat party has been reduced to a dog who is all bark and no bite. It's time to tie up that dog, roll up a newspaper, and show him who's the boss.

I don't know about all that.
I consider myself to have good moral values and I voted for Kerry.
I think it just depends on how you feel. I agree with Kerry that I don't feel I should push my religion on others.
But I go to church on Sundays and teach my kids to respect everyone and to live by the laws of the land. I just don't agree with those who say that they have better moral values simply because they call themselves conservatives.
Fact is that abortion, murder, rape, adultery, pre-marital sex, sexuality, orgies and many other "immoral" acts happen in all families regardless of religion, color, creed, culture or poliitcal party you belong to.
    But that's just me.
