OSU picks up another Top 100

Rivals #54 player and #9 WR Dez Bryant of Lufkin committed this weekend, joining #69 overall, #8 in Texas and #5 DE overall Richetti Jones as Top 100 players that will enroll at OSU next year. They are also joined by fellow 4-star recruits Ryan Broyles (#12 overall Corner; #4 Oklahoma overall) and Tonga Tea (#1 JUCO DT) in the 2007 class.

The four 4-star recruits matches OSU's season high in 2003, when Donovan Woods, Brad Girtman, Robert Jones and Xavier Lawson-Kennedy all inked with OSU. That class ranked 15th overall in the nation, but only averaged 2.81 stars on the Rivals ranking system. This year's class currently averages 3.18 stars, which is ranked only behind Texas, Oklahoma and Nebraska in the Big 12.

Oklahoma State got a total of four new commits this weekend, one of them from unknown Adrian Moore. Moore was completely off the radar until he came in this weekend at #12 on Arkansas' Top 25 Overall list. He rushed for 2300 yards and 27 touchdowns and had 489 passing yards and five passing touchdowns. With the new Arkansas list just coming out, it appears OSU was in the right place at the right time.

All this, and OSU is not done. In what is being described as a small, targeted class, Oklahoma State only has room for about 23 new names, with 20 verbals already counted. Still out on OSU's board are 4-star recruits Lennon Creer (#57 overall; #6 RB overall) and Christian Scott (#10 Safety overall). OSU also has offers out to over a half-dozen 3-star prospects, one of which is James Thomas, #37 Safety and #50 Texas overall, who is considered an OSU lean.

As well, Oklahoma State is thought to have at least one 'Signing Day Surprise' up their sleeve. Last year's gem was #8 Cornerback overall Perrish Cox. Cox was a solid commit, at least in the eyes of the media, to Les Miles at LSU last year, but instead faxed his LOI to Stillwater on Signing Day. Cox went on to be the first player since Barry Sanders to return the Opening Day Kickoff back for a touchdown. He ranked 14th nationally in Punt Returns and 35th nationally in Kickoff Returns.

La Marque safety James Thomas made a stand in Stillwater, Oklahoma this weekend.

Thomas (6-0, 180-pounds) took an official visit with other high profile recruits to Cowboy country and verbally committed to Mike Gundy's staff.

"They asked if anyone wanted to become a Cowboy this weekend," he said. "Me, Dez (Bryant) and Jacoby (Reed) stood up. I'm happy the process is over and I'm not taking any more visits. They are telling me I have a shot to play next year and I like that idea."

Thomas was hosted by Andre Sexton of Houston, who could be his defensive back-mate in years to come. He ranks 50th in the Texas Top 100, and was a two-time, all-state selection.

"The visit went very well and I got to know some of the guys coming in," he said. "William Cole was also up there and said he might commit after taking one more visit. We've got a good class coming in."

Cowboy assistant Joe DeForest has been recruiting Thomas through the process and finally got his man.

Dez is a solid looking WR prospect, you guys are going to enjoy having him up there. All in all a very good class, kind of seems momentum is swinging in your favor in state with regards to ou. It will also be interesting to see how those last few recruits shake out. L. Creer looks like a solid RB prospect, I know we're also after him, and C. Scott could be a difference maker at the safety position, although I think he either goes with UT or ou.

Greg Ladky, the Rivals.com AMP managing producer, actually left a post on the OSU board saying how excited we should be, "Congrats on the big pickup. AMP has been watching Dez for two years now. There is not a WR in the nation that consistently makes more freak catches than Dez. Just a lot of fun to watch."

FYI, as these things go, Broyles has supposedly renigged and accepted a uo ship.

OSU has no shot at Creer, IMO. I think he goes to uo over UT.

We are working Scott, but I think it is between LSU and UT, with UT the edge.

OSU is currently pursuing 2 (that I know of) that have given verbals elsewhere. Neither involves a Texas team. Both are 4-stars and both were in Stillwater this past weekend.

OSU currently sits at #29 in the team rankings, behind UT (2), Neb (9) and uo (18).

Another 4-star OSU is in on is William Cole. He was thought to be going to Neb, but I have been told that Neb just filled up and he has no ship left. Coach Fran must have heard this as well, because he was at Cole's house this weekend. arKy was also in the mix, but I have heard they are full, too. He has already been to OSU and not to atm, so this looks to be a good shot for OSU. KU is also in the mix.

^Capt. Mike, what's the feeling up there in Oklahoma with regards to OU and their recruiting? Unless they pull some kind of trick out their ass they're having a really bad recruiting year, also losing a number of recruits late. , we just got one kid they lost, Kirkendoll (WR) out of Round Rock. I know another big time in state OL kid is going to ND.

And it seems that you guys are pulling in some pretty good talent. Any thoughts as to why ou is having these kinds of problems? Stoops has been mostly bullet proof up there for a while, is he finally starting to show some vulnerabilities? Just curious on your take, thanks.

Not sure, but in every big recruit we have offered that atm offered, we have beaten them so far. atm's class is currently ranked around 35th... there lowest rating in almost 10 years.

thats true, except scout.com has us #22 and espn.com has us #27. though, it does appear to be a down year...thus far.
