I have never seen so many cheers for an opposing team like i have been seeing in the Lakers road trip. MVP chants in Boston...cheers in WDC...now Atlanta sounded like Staples Center. WTF is going on?!

I care about the Lakers...obviously I'm a huge fan....but I don't remember MVP chants last year...mostly boos from the visiting fans. Now, in Boston, Washington, and Altanta, large centers with a lot of B-ball fans. Even the Knicks game the fans booed the refs when Kobe wasn't at the game.
I say he's turning a corner in public appeal.

It's too funny...I just hope they continue playing well. Hopefully they get Walton back soon and Kwame in a couple of weeks. I remember after the colorado incident all I heard was boos when he touched the ball. Still, I'm sure in Arco, and in Phoenix he's still pretty hated.

I am also surprised at the Kobe love on the road this season. He's really managed to turn his rep around with fans this season...

The Lakers are the Dallas Cowboys/New York Yankees/Boston Red Sox of the NBA. They have a ton of moronic bandwagon fans that jumped on when they were winning. It's easier to cheer for a winning team than a team that sucks. That's why they're getting cheered in places where the local team sucks. That's all it is. Bandwagon fans. If you don't live near LA and you're a Lakers fan then you're a bandwagon fan. The end. I hope you die.

If you're one of the NBA's elite teams, a packed house is an incredible positive. Everyone in the arena is pulling for the home team, and the noise and emotion can be a huge problem for the visitors.

But for teams on the other side of the NBA tracks, a sellout can be much more of a mixed blessing. Take the Hawks' "home" game against the Lakers on Monday for instance. On the one hand, it was great to see Atlanta celebs like Martin Lawrence, Tim Allen, and Bow Wow come out, and it was nice to see the crowd be a factor at a Hawks game for a change.

On the other hand, the crowd was mostly a factor for the visitors. A good chunk of the audience was wearing gold jerseys with a "24" or an "8"on the back, and the vast majority of fans cheered for the visitors.

Kobe Bryant seemed to visibly feed off their cheering, much as he did in Boston a few days earlier. This was particularly true when he took the game over in the fourth quarter, scoring nine straight points midway through the period on a series of one-on-one moves to put the game out of reach.

It was a great show and one of the more entertaining games Philips Arenas has seen this year ... but I have a feeling the Hawks would rather have played in front of a few hundred folks and picked up a W.

Mulvany....you're a tool...seriously. Bandwagon fans are fans that attach to situations when they are winning. The lakers are 4 years removed from any les and probably won't get close this year. I don't live in LA, but I've been a fan from the 80's. Seeing that you are a Dallas fan figures...

The Lakers are the Yankees of the NBA, but better. We actually have to deal with a salary cap.

This argument is stupid and tired. Just because you live in one city does not obligate you to root for your hometown team. There could be reasons why people root for other teams fromother cities. There are Thousands of Cowboy fans in the DC area and many can tell you everything that is to know about the Cowboys.
