Blingy, you're in mid school right? Do they still teach that in 7th grade?

Ahh San Diego....which of course in German means "a whale's vagina..."
Really?
Only thing I remember about 7th grade was learning the multiplication tables.Texas History was more middle school...7th grade'ish for us.
Tejas means friends I think like mentioned above. Tejanos means Texans. Tejas is Texas in Spanish.
Yes, Pete, it is. In fact , it's pronounced "mill-e-wah-que" which is Algonquin for "the good land."
I've read many places where "Texas" is actually of Aztec origin which the Spanish adopted.
Thank you, Captain Obvious.
Caddo, not Aztec.
In Mexican Spanish X and J make the same sound and are interchangeable. In Castilian Spanish the letter X makes a much harder sound, like German "CH," and it is this latter sound that was transcribed from the Caddo language.
This same linguistic anomaly gave us the word Chicano, which is nothing but a shortened form of "Mexicano." In the dialect of certain Mesoamericans, Mexico is pronounced "Meh-shi-co," so often pure-blooded Amerindians in Mexico called themselves "Meshicanos." White and Mestizo Mexicans mocked their pronunciation by calling them "Chicanos." Since a lot of our migrant workers tend toward a more Amerinidan ethnic background, that term emerged up here as well, and in fact became a term of self-identification for Latino activists back in the '60s and '70s.
According to Uncle John's Bathroom Reader, it's Tehas. Talk to Uncle J bout it.
You stay classy...
Si means yes.
