It's already been on, but you might check ESPNRadio.com in case they post it. After the Mikes got their typical lame yuk-yuks in, it was a nice interview... highlighted by David's hilarious impersonation of AJ.

    Other topics discussed:

    - David says he would not ever want to suit up in the NBA again. He's learned that there were a lot of things he was missing with his family while he was playing and he doesn't want to lose more time with them. Plus, he thinks if he had to suit up again, he could probably only give the team 2 good minutes.

    - He's very impressed by the athleticism of 7-footers in the league right now, but he's surprised that more of them don't want to be post players and let the guards do the ball handling and outside shooting, because it's easier to build a team around a true center. Then again, he said if he could shoot like Dirk Nowitzki he'd probably would have taken a lot more 3's.

    - Reflecting on his career, he loved being able to be a part of the team's, Tim's and the city's growth during his time in the NBA. He's still amazed that he was able to retire with an NBA Championship (couldn't have scripted it better), and he says that's one of the reasons he never wanted to make a comeback.

I heard him this morning too.

A true sports hero in every sense of the word. Sure do miss his contributions.

We're all very fortunate to have had this guy grace our franchise and our city.

With all the manufactured hype surrounding the so-called NBA media personalities and on-court superstars, it's a shame the NBA fanbase and national sports media have somewhat overlooked and even perhaps forgotten about him.

The greatest role model for us SA kids who were coming up in the 90's. Humble, hard working, and muscularity that rivaled that of any comic book superhero. Seriously, the guy deserves his own chapter in Texas History textbooks.

    This coming from David Robinson?

Next up: Jerry West on why a winning team needs a pass-first point guard.

What are you talking about? He had a jumpshot to keep teams honest (not to mention how many dunks he got driving past the slow footed centers closing on him), but Robinson did a lot of work on the low block.

The smear ads practically write themselves. The scene would open with the usual black and white shot of Robinson with that tense "Law and Order" style music in the background.

Narrator: What kind of man is David Robinson? A soft one...
(cut to a clip of Rodman giving David a cheap shot to his lower back)

Narrator: ...too soft to fight The Worm when this happened...
(cut to clip of Malone KO'ing David, freeze framing on Tim Duncan's look of horror standing over his teammates unconcious body)

Narrator:...too soft to stand up to this. In fact, Robinson had to let "the league" handle his problems. Who will he let do the dirty work if he gets elected? If he won't fight for himself, will he fight for you?

(cut back to menacing black and white shot of the Admiral)

Narrator: David Robinson, too soft to win a championship on his own, and too soft for Texas.

Voice Over: I'm Charlie Rosen and I approve this message.

And there's lessons to be learned from the 2004 presidential campaign. If he ran for political office his dirty little secret from his military service might come out. Despite going by "The Admiral" nearly 20 years he never attained the rank. That'll Swift Boat his ass right out of the running if the general public found out.

I thought it was great, in a time when the guys who might be on TV get all suited up, that David showed up wearing a Spurs t-shirt and jeans.

There was obvious respect for David from both Golic and Greenburg -- much more than the usual pla udes that might be uttered about a player or former player. It almost seemed that they were in awe of Big Dave.

Dave was also poignant, I thought, saying that his career didn't really follow the script that he might have written for it, but that it probably couldn't have been much better. I have the sense that it means a lot to David that he went out on top. I also think that it means a great deal to David that he had the opportunity to tutor Tim Duncan and that they have became and remain good friends.

Dennis Rodman would be on Dave's side and he'd come out and publically disown that statement...as would every other NBA player that called David soft...now that they've grown up.

Robinson is the reason I started following the Spurs. Pure class all around, and a total monster on the court. I don't know if there will ever be another player quite like him. That is why the 03 championship is still my favorite. Seeing him come out of the game at the end pumping his fist and jumping and twirling around literally brought tears to my eyes. It was an amazing moment.

Always good to hear a David Robinson interview. You can find it on the espnradio.com site to listen to, but I think you need insider.
