Stick with Ipod or a Nomad. Hard drive based is the way to go. Don't get anything Dell.
I'm getting a new MP3 player, but I'm not sure what to get...I'm leaning towards the iPod mini, even though it holds fewer songs...but it's, well, cute. The other options are a regular iPod (more expensive) and a dell dj, but I'd prefer sticking to an ipod of some sort. Anyone have any suggestions, experience?

the dell is hard drive based, I have one and it's been fine, but the iPod is smaller....I don't have a mac, would I have to buy a dock so it would be compatable with my computer?
Not to hijack, but I got an Oakley catalog in the mail yesterday and they are now promoting this

Adrienne, you don't need a mac for an ipod. My husband bought an ipod for windows 2 years ago.
Sweet...when we were looking at these things the first time, the sales guy told us we'd have to buy extras to make it work. Jerk.
He bought his at Best Buy, so try there.
read this
I just asked him about his and he said everything came in one box.
I say ipod. I've been wanting one of these for a while now too and almost everyone who's gotten one has loved it and highly recommends it. I also saw a consumer report they did on the players and the Ipod of course rated higher. I personally would go with the regular one. I haven't really looked into the mini though. Whatever you get make sure you let us know what you think! I'm still hoping Santa brings one my way![]()
The regular iPod is definitely worth the extra $. I've had mine for one year now and the quality of the device itself as well as the sound quality is just awesome - I specially like the Smart Playlist function.
Since I never leave it at home it's not as nice as new but I'm convinced any other mp3 player would have already been broken.
Buy Creative or one of the other ones. If you buy an iPod you've gotta pay $1/song for your music.
Who cares if you have something that can hold 10,000 songs if you have to pay $10K to do it?
You can upload any mp3, wav or aac file to your iPod, you don't need to buy songs from the iTunes shop if you don't want to. iTunes also allows you to encode and manage your CD and transfer music from them to your iPod.
Details here.
That's not true![]()
Damn 5 Bills for the 256mb thumps is an awful lot for that
and I have purchased 3 pairs of Oakleys
This looks expensive:

That's total BS!!!! I've had my Pod for 2 yrs now and have never had to pay for the music i put on it, you can download songs right off CD's that you or friends own or go with Limewire or some other P2P![]()
adrienne, If you want to transport files or songs using the Ipod I don't believe you can do this with the copy protection it has currently.
S y, you are right about that. I don't believe you can copy from the Ipod back to another computer though. That is one of it's copy protections. I don't believe the SoundBlaster Nomad has that restriction. But it is larger and bulkier.
I have an Ipod and love it. You can download any of your mp3s onto it, and don't have to pay for them. Legal or not is another question, but you're not obligated to buy them from the IStore. You also don't need a Mac. You can load ITunes for your PC, and it loads off of there. I definitely recommend the IPod. I've never tried any of the others, but I'm 100% satisfied with mine.
I don't know...but he just adds music to it anyway.
Put it this way, this is the third MP3 player he's owned and the only one that's lasted longer than 6 months. And he uses it daily.
This too, is incorrect I bought Ray Charles new album(Genius Loves Company) and ripped right to my hard drive through Musicmatch Jukebox and then to my ipod.......You can also take the music off the ipod and put it onto any computer!!! It's a hard drive!!!!
666 when you connect your iPod to your computer you do not have to use itunes (its original software) the iPod appears as an external harddisk in you windows explorer, which means that you can copy any file on or off it as many time as you wish. I actually used it quite often to transfer uncompressed video files between different studios.
If you do use the iTune software then you can actually burn your mp3 to CDs directly from it and I believe there are also more options regarding the management and sharing of your music.
Moral of story...Adrienne, get the ipod!
I second the motion!!!![]()
get the ipod
and then send it to me!
Just don't use the white headphones that come with it:
1. they suck
2. I hear it's the best way to get mugged in some big cities
I highly recomend these.

Wearing the white Ipod phones is the best way to get mugged?
I'll agree that they suck (mine have started making a buzzing sound), but never heard they were dangerous.
