GO MAVS GO!!!![]()
Bas s better win it all this year after everything they've done in the regular season so far...![]()
i shouldn't care so much about regular season records but all this boredom as i wait for the playoffs has led me to get worked up and somewhat excited about what the mavs are doing...don't get me wrong, i enjoy each game and every win but i'm getting antsy for the playoffs
for me, i know some spurs fans like to compare this season's mavs to the pistons who were slated to win 70 and their subsequent demise...well, they didn't even get 65 that year, which for me, is the magic number...so while some spurs fans (spursdynasty) are praying every night for a mavs/warriors matchup, i'm praying for win #65...see below
ALL-TIME MOST WINS, SINGLE SEASON
TEAM SEASON W-L PCT FINISH
Chicago Bulls 1995-96 72-10 .878 NBA Champions
Los Angeles Lakers 1971-72 69-13 .841 NBA Champions
Chicago Bulls 1996-97 69-13 .841 NBA Champions
Philadelphia 76ers 1966-67 68-13 .840 NBA Champions
Boston Celtics 1972-73 68-14 .829 Eastern Conference Finals
Dallas Mavericks 2006-07 68-14* .829 ???
Boston Celtics 1985-86 67-15 .817 NBA Champions
Chicago Bulls 1991-92 67-15 .817 NBA Champions
Los Angeles Lakers 1999-2000 67-15 .817 NBA Champions
Milwaukee Bucks 1970-71 66-16 .805 NBA Champions
Philadelphia 76ers 1982-83 65-17 .793 NBA Champions
Los Angeles Lakers 1986-87 65-17 .793 NBA Champions
that said, i still think it's going to be ridiculously tough for any team to come out of the west, including the mavs...lol, even if we don't win, at least we'll have company thanks to the 72 celtics but really, that's no consolation at all, i'll cry for a week![]()
That would be quite an ignominious double-whammy to have achieved.
The Mavs regular season certainly has been quite impressive. I, too, am getting amped up for playoff games to get here. I have missed that nervous, socked-in-the-gut-only-to-feel-outrageous-exhilaration feeling that comes with every playoff game, every playoff quarter, and every playoff possession.
yes, it will be quite depressing if the mavericks don't win it all but there is no clear *top* team (at least IMO) when it comes to comparing mavs, spurs and suns this season. also, how tired out is the team from the west going to be compared to the team coming out of the east? hopefully, some of the later rounds in the east will be just as long as i expect the west to be. whatever happens, i'm looking forward to it and i'll be around cheering the mavs, whatever the outcome.
Mavs are looking virtually unstoppable and tremendously deep, Steve Nash looks like he's on a mission and Amare looks like he's finally recovered, Yao is looking like he's got some beef with the league's image of him as soft and McGrady is proving to be the complimentary sidekick he was expected to be, Carlos Boozer is looking healthy for the first time in ages and Sloane may finally get his COY award, Kobe Bryant is on a one man scoring rampage singlehandley winning games for his team, and the Spurs are still playing smallball.
Gotta love the excitement of the playoffs!![]()
Gee, thanks for the boost!![]()

i was wondering how long it would take for a spurs fan to jump on that, a bit longer than i thought....where's spursdynasty when you need him?
I think Im done jumping on little insults here and there, Spurs are playing well, Im just going to wait for the playoffs to talk
i wonder if that was supposed to be an insult though...i guess so but the spurs are doing well so i don't see how it could be if he believes they *continue* to play small ball.
Hopefully living out the life of a musician and choking on his own vomit.
If the Mavs dont get the le this year, I will be so heartbroken. The pain will be so much tougher to bear then it was last year.![]()
My sig also would go to waste. Dont let me down boys. I ing love you guys and bring that le home!!

Sure, if you want the perspective of being lumped with Stockton, Malone and Barkley as being great players than never won a le.
Right now, that is where Dirk is "ranked" in the greatness perspective. To be fair, DRob was ranked there for many years as well until he finally won a le with Timmy by his side (or the other way around to be truthful).
There are clearly two tiers of greatness: The great individual players whose teams have won les (Every one of the HoFers mentioned above -discounting Malone and Stockton- have at least 3 rings, with the exception being the Big O who only got one) and the great individual players who have not.
Not saying that Dirk and the Mavs will never get that le, but right now today Dirk is in that second tier. That may change in a few months, but it is the reality of the situation today. At least Dirk and the Mavs have more upside than KG, another second tier player who may never get a chance to challenge for a le.
The Mavs remind me a lot of the Malone-Stockton Utah Jazz.

Dude, how could it get any worse than last year? When Dallas went up 2-0, I thought, as did most people, that that was a lock.
If I were Mavs fan, I would keep telling myself that nothing could happen that would be worse than last year.
Yeah, last year sucked but I had already thought they over-achieved (didn't think they would beat the Spurs). They, obviously, weren't ready to win it all as they couldn't finish the deal. Whether you want to attribute it to choking, partying too much down on South Beach or just getting D-Waded they just weren't mentally ready. I think they were still a little giddy over beating the Spurs for the first time and then getting to the finals. I think they're much more prepared this season and I would be very surprised (not shocked) if they don't win it all (barring any major injury). My point is that it will suck much worse than last season for me if they don't bring home a le this season.
I blame D-Wade. Really, some calls were questionable that could have put the series into a four-game sweep by the Mavs.
I think that this year more than last would be seen as a greater failure if they dont bring home a le simply because of what you said: The Just Happy To Be Here Factor that was very present last year. This year they have a different mindset.
Doesn't mean that they are a mortal lock this year and we can start planning parade routes, as I believe both the Suns and Spurs could beat them, but realistically this season they are the team to beat. That being said, I like the Spurs in an underdog role.
Since it seems likely Dallas will get 70 wins this season, how many teams got 70+ wins and choked in the playoffs?

Indeed.
Just what I was thinking when I say that stat
Will Dallas be the sole owner of that stat?
Doesn't matter if it was supposed to be an insult or not, It's true, perfectly placed and cuts right to the heart of most Spurs fans fears.
i bet none of them teams lost 4 straight in the finals though......
