Brandon Adams earned his first-career win as the Cowboys swept Baylor on Sunday.

STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State overcame a five-run deficit and earned a series sweep with a 10-5 win over Baylor on Sunday at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.

The OSU win, coupled with Texas’ loss to Oklahoma on Sunday, moved the Cowboys into first place in the Big 12 Conference standings. OSU, which has won eight-straight conference series dating back to last season, is 5-1 in league play and 22-6 overall.

The 14th-ranked Cowboys continued their hit parade in the series finale against Baylor (16-14, 2-7) as they racked up 17 hits. For the series, OSU collected 48 hits and outscored the Bears by a 39-17 margin, opening the Saturday doubleheader with a 15-5 run-rule win in seven innings and then earning a 14-7 win in the nightcap.

Baylor came out strong on Sunday as the Bears rallied for five runs in the first inning and knocked OSU starter Andrew Oliver out of the game after just 2/3 of an inning.

BU got an RBI triple from Beamer Weems, an RBI double from Aaron Miller and a two-RBI triple by Chase Gerdes to make the score 4-0, and Oliver was pulled after a wild pitch gave the Bears a 5-0 advantage.

The Bears’ lead was short lived as OSU scored all of its runs in the second and third innings.

Ty Wright led off the Cowboys’ second with a double and later scored on an RBI single by Dylan Brown. The big blow of the inning came off the bat of Keanon Simon, who delivered a three-run home run over the right-field wall to pull OSU to within 5-4. The homer was Simon’s third of the season and extended his team-best hitting streak to 13 games.

OSU would get the rest of the runs it needed in the third as they erupted for six runs on six hits.

Tyler Mach led off the pivotal frame with a double, and Matt Mangini’s RBI single tied the score at 5-5. Rebel Ridling later gave OSU the lead with a run-scoring single, and a two-RBI single by pinch hitter Steve Ptak made the score 8-5. The final two runs of the game came on a two-RBI double by Corey Brown.

From there, the Cowboys’ pitching staff took over. Following Oliver’s short-lived outing, four OSU relievers allowed just three hits and struck out 11 while keeping the Bears off the scoreboard over the final 8.1 innings.

Senior Brandon Adams earned the win for the Cowboys as the right hander worked four innings and allowed just two hits while striking out six. It was the first win of Adams’ OSU career.

Adams was followed by Tyler Lyons and Martin Beno, and Justin Friend came out of the bullpen and worked the final 2.1 innings to earn his team-leading fourth save of the season. For Friend, who struck out Gerdes with two outs and the bases loaded in the seventh, it also marked his second save of the series.

Mach finished the contest 4-for-5 at the plate, while Ridling was 4-for-4 with an RBI.

OSU returns to action Thursday against Nebraska in Lincoln. Thursday’s opener is scheduled for 6:35 p.m., as is Friday’s contest. Saturday’s series finale will start at 1:05 p.m.
