well, in my experience Americans really do know much less about the world in general than most realise. However, I think if you went around asking some of these questions in Latin American countries you would get as much if not more ignorant answers. It is rather disconscerting though, that the country that runs this world is chalk full of people that know nothing about it

I'd like to feel the same way but to be honest with you the general public really is that re ed. Its highly likely they edited out the legit stuff but I'd guess it wasn't all that much editing.
I probably talk to 50 or so people a day in person and I'd say a good 90% of them would be just as stupid as what we just witnessed on that video. Then the countless people I encounter just by existing within society show me no better. Its very very sad. Then parenting and teaching in this country is unbelievably sub standard.
Then people wonder why I hate the general public so much.
This is nothing new. Other shows have done this for years.
I could walk into any country and ask 100 random people on the street questions, and certainly at least 10% would be idiots. Of course, just show the idiot's answers to particular questions, and lo and behold, you have a comedy sketch!
