wow... that came outta nowhere... is this like the toyota thing where they were choosing between sa and memphis.. (marion?) or are they already dead set on it?
just surprised at the unexpectedness of it... toyota was like 2 years of speculation.
It is being reported by KSAT tonight that GM is in the process of picking a site in San Antonio for a plant.

I wonder if the south side is a potential site. If so, damn. The south side will be like Tom Hanks in the movie Big. One moment little, a kid and the next big and an adult.
I'd say they would build this one on the North side but outskirts like schertz or between New Braunfels or 1604. Wasn't schertz a potential site for Toyota? In any event, this is great news. Now we see the "Toyota" effect.
any word on the potential size of the plant? what it would produce?
Yeah Weed grows well here!
Why build a plant 300 miles away from a plant that has had lay offs?
LOTS of reasons that could be the case. Maybe they got a better tax deal or whatever. Also could be a completely different platform, cars vs trucks or SUVs.
honestly you can bet that they are budlin up the south side like its nobodys BIDNESS......
id still like to know what exactly is being produced....
SA is a good choice for companies that need a lot of unskilled labor or even cheap skilled labor.
GM is just trying to keep up with Toyota.
San Detroito
mouse already sent in his application. :fingerscrossed
i'd work for GM. i'm sure they'd be less tightass than toyota.
drugs and tacos all around. sheyyyitt, we just building chebbies.
my 93 lumina, aka "trigger," ala smokey and the bandit, just passed 200,000 miles, thankyou very much.
chevy rules.
i don't see this on any of the news websites. you have a link writer?
GM = General Motors ... so I'd imagine cars/trucks.
I read it as GM = General Manager at first.![]()

The only thing that could possibly make sense would be if this were a exploratory look for a future engine plant, or perhaps an OnStar call center. That's what GM is focusing on right now. They are hiring 400 engineers in Michigan for powertrain development, hybrids, fuel cells, OnStar, and other IT applications.
GM already has gross assembly overcapacity in the U.S. They are trying to figure out what to do with the Spring Hill, TN plant that used to build Saturns.
Going to San Antonio for cheap labor doesn't really work because GM is beholden to the UAW leeches in the U.S. The cheap labor is a couple hundred miles further to the southwest.
Or perhaps KSAT got confused, and this plant is going in Sananto Nyo, South Korea?
Well, on the bright side, we might have a replacement for Charles Oakley.
Whatever keeps you employed right?
This was reported on another forum, however, the poster has no reason to lie. I'm currently trying to contact people at KSAT to get the low down on what they reported.
He could have been confused. Toyota did announce a new director for the SA truck plant.
According to the other poster on that other forum it was from KTSA not KSAT.
You're right, I went back and read it and it does say KTSA.
I'm guessing GM vehicles.
