I think it will be time to reassess how that award is given. MVP's don't disappear in the 1st round. Steve Nash better win it.

The series isn't over yet, but if the Mavs don't win the series, Nash should win the MVP.

I'll think there are two MVP awards ... one for the regular season, one for the playoffs. The latter is the only one that means anything.

I'll think the same thing that I think about the Mavs going out in the first round. A great regular season wasted.

Why should a regular season award be based on a postseason performance?

Votes are submitted prior to the playoffs.

I don't know what's worst, having an spine-less MVP who goes all Sam Wheat in the first round, or a player who might be known as the only multiple MVP winner to never make the Finals.

Yeah, there's no way I'm going to be particularly happy with the MVP this year. It'll either be a poor leader or a guy who doesn't play a lick of defense. Why isn't Tim Duncan in the running for this again?

Tim wasn't gaudy in the regular season. Limited minutes for one thing, and he'd rather win his fourth "real" MVP anyway. If you compare what he did with what Dirk/Nash did, and what the Spurs did compare to Dallas/Phoenix, it's just a bit short.

MVP's dont play like this, especially in the first round of the playoffs, especially against one of the worst defensive teams in the league, and especially when a 6'7 guard named Stephen jackson is guarding you

I'll take a "Finals MVP" over a "League MVP" any year of the decade.

The award is MVP of the season, so Dirk deserves it. If you would count the playoffs then not.

In all honestly, even with the way Dirk has disappointed me, I hope he still gets it.

I remember when last year Steve Nash went down 3 games to 1, people were quick to defend him saying it only depended on the regular season. But I can't help but feel he's gonna be penalized for his nut-less performance in the playoffs.

i think he should still get it. my earlier rants were just that. part of me is REALLY disappointed in his performance but then part of me, is used to it. THASS THE SAD PART. its expected of him to fade bc he does it soo often in the post season.

he does deserve the MVP for the season tho. i dont wanna take that from him. maybe that will be motivation for him to play better or something?? maybe im...

Has there ever been a regular season MVP whose team didn't get past the first round or not made the playoffs at all?

The MVP award is usually given at the beginning of the second round. The NBA annually makes a big deal out of it by awarding it to a player in front of his hometown fans prior to hosting a second round game.

Since this won't happen if the Mavs are eliminated, I think the NBA might scramble and give it to Nash, even if the votes are already tallied in Dirk's favor. Imagine how awkward and funny it would be for Dirk to receive the MVP trophy at Maverick headquarters after their season has ended.

The votes are in. If Dirk won, he won.

It's for the regular season anyway. Everyone knows this. If the Mavs are out of the Playoffs, Dirk's MVP will make the news, there will be brief discussion on the disappointing first round and life will go on.

No one's going to be nullifying any votes.

I would have Dirt receive the MVP for the regular season cause his team had the best record I dont want to see Nash win it 3 times in a row. Thats crazy, no way is he a 3 time MVP with no defense and no les under his belt. The MVP trophy would turn into a joke if nash wins it again.

This would be no more embarrassing for the NBA than a Defensive Player of the Year playing matador defense in the first round of the Playoffs.

If MVP stands for "Most Vanished Player" then Dirk should win.

I don't know why none mentions Amare...he's the one that will put them over the edge if they win it all.
