some computer nerd told me i could change my IP for my internet by going to this site, http://www.multiproxy.org, and finding an IP that suites my country, and put it into my internet settings/manual proxy.

kori and all you internet heads (mouse, slomo), does this work? if it does i might go black again...

If you have DSL you'll always have a dynamic IP address that changes everytime you log on, if you have Cable then it will remain the same(static). I don't know about that site though. You put in your IP address and next thing you know your personal files are taken. You never know.........

If you have a cable modem just unplug your modem for a day or two. It should reset your IP address.

Just so you know NorCal, even if you go around changing your IP address just to cause havoc, you can get reported to your internet provider and get in trouble.

So stop trying to f around, ma ninja.

If you never post here again, your IP address will automatically reset every day.

its not so much changing your IP address, all you are doing is tunneling your traffic thru a proxy server... like this is used to get around blocked websites on networks that are locked down....but i guess if you were trying to wreck some that you could try this but its a false since of security because if you really do try to do something serious you to hide behind something more then a poxy...

people can also be banned by mac address which can be spoofed but never changed

and that is a better way of banning people

Well, actually there is a fairly easy way around this too but I'm not going to be the one to let the Norcals in on it.

    BINGO! DannyT nailed it.

People who spam and hack use this method. Most proxy severs have cache and logging built in (leaving tracking methods). There's gonna be a day (someday) when authentication will have to occur every time before a web session.

That's just a proxy server, the only practical use it has is for bypassing things like school/work network blocks and filters.

Some of the ignorance in this thread is giving me a good giggle.

MAC addresses = layer 2 address

Also, Norcal, I am certain that Kori uses troll tracker which tracks users that post by proxy. So I wouldn't count on that being much use to you for very long.

Well you can change a Mac address. But it is true that if you do something bad enough they can trace you no matter what. Nobody is entirely anonymous.

Anyone in the business knows this.

The guy asked about how someone can be banned from a site by his IP address, especially if it changes, and the response was by MAC address.

    What's ur point?

Sorry for bumping this thread.... I haven't been around much until today.... and just looked at this thread since I had posted in it... and noticed some questions regarding my post.

First off, my post sounded condescending and I'd like to apologize for that because that was not my intent.

To answer the question regarding banning by MAC address.... First off vbulletin doesn't support this. And even if it did you would be limiting traffic to your server more so than you would have intended as the MAC address the spurstalk server sees will be the address of the router that forwarded the packet. So anyone communicating via that same next hop router will effectively be banned.
