Tony Parker, in an interview during game one, said that he's the point guard with the most rings in the NBA. It's a testament to how he doesn't care about individual accolades.

Just to be a punk, he's Parker's compe ion:
    Gary Payton - 1 ring (2005-06).
    Jason Williams - 1 ring (2005-06).
    Chauncey Billups - 1 ring (2003-04).
    Speedy Claxton - 1 ring (2002-03).

So there...you need one more ring to tie Derek Fisher.

    Damn liar.

    P.S. ---

    2000-01: Spurs d. Mavs, 4-1.
    2002-03: Spurs d. Mavs, 4-2.
    2004-05: Spurs d. Suns, 4-1.
    2006-07: Spurs d. Suns, 4-2.

All players care about individual accolades it's just some of them are smart enough to not mention them above winning a championship. The Spurs players have historically (last 10 years) been the best at saying all the right things in the media. I attribute a lot of that to Pop. Plus, Robinson was there a decade ago and he's a damn smart dude that knew what should and shouldn't be said to the media. Duncan learned from him and others have learned from Duncan. It's easy when you're winning championships every 2nd or 3rd year. The challenge is when you're not.

If we're thinking about the same clip, I didn't think that was exactly what he said. I thought he said that everybody was talking about Deron Williams and Baron Davis, but that was ok because he had more rings than them, which is true. I didn't hear him say he had more rings than any other point guard, just that he had more rings than the point guards who had been heavily publicized these playoffs. But I didn't Tivo the game and can't check it, so if I'm wrong, I'm wrong.

Of course Tony cares about individual accolades. He said a couple of years ago that he wants to be an All-Star every year. It just isn't more important than winning a le.

He said that since he's in a small market he doesn't get the attention compared to the other great pg's (no Derek Fisher does not count under that category). He was talking about the All star guards and its true he does have more rings than them.

I'm pretty sure that's what he said, not that he had more rings than any PG in the NBA.

He said at the end of the season everyone will probably talk about baron or nash or williams... but he doesn't care, because he'll have more rings than any of them. Not more than any guard in the NBA.

I saw that interview. He was talking about the ELITE point guards in the NBA, not every point guard.

Well I definately doubt that! First of all who is to say that baron or deron would be able to cope with the spurs environment the way that tony has? To be able deal with Popovich's constant yelling and wanting to be perfect?. TO have a huge superstar in Tim Duncan to whom he must earn the trust to be truely great. Parker definately paid his dues to get better, to earn the trust of Coach Pop, Tim Duncan and the whole franchise.. he had to, he almost got traded for jason kidd.. You have to be a special player to be the starting point guard for the spurs. One thing is for sure, Tony plays a of a lot better defense than both baron and deron! And Coach pop wouldnt even let you off the bench if you cant play defense!

Since Deron was 18 when the Spurs won their first le and Baron has missed 35 games a year since Parker's first championship I seriously doubt that.

yeah thats a good point but i guess i was talking more in terms of just this year. I do seriously doubt parker could carry a team on his back like baron has done for the warriors this year. It be interesting to see if duncan missed like 15-20 games next season and parker and ginobli had to carry the team.

That is exactly what he said. He said people were talking about Baron and Deron. Tony just said he was happier with championships over being talked about.

Last night was more indicative of Tony's "team-first" at ude.

When asked if he would be MVP of the Finals, he said that Tim or Manu would be MVP.

He's just happy helping them out.

For the record, at this point in time, Tony Parker is Finals MVP in my book. That could change before the series is over, however.

19 points, 6 assists, 55% field goal shooting, all star team, 63 wins, in a season where Duncan and Ginobili were banged up.

It doesn't matter, right everyone? Because the Mavs and the Suns are the two best teams in the NBA because they won 67 and 62 games, right?
