Isn't it because you can't buy part of the ingredients anymore because of the "Mad Cow" scare?
nuthin like a good bowl of menudo on a cold day, but why the is it so expensive? The ingredients are cheap, but even at a reasonablly priced "dive" a bowl is $5-$6...even more than beef or chicken caldo...whats up with that?

cause they have to keep switching out the boys when they hit puberty.
My theory:
2 reasons:
1) Fewer people these days want to take the time to prepare it, perhaps not really being very good at preparing it "right".
2) Because they CAN charge more. Like Fajita meat. (It used to be cheap backstrap. Now they call it "Fajita" meat.)
