Getting tired of Peter Holt crying about money. I wish Mr Butt(H.E.B), would buy the team!!! Peter wants to keep the hotel tax so upgrades can be done at the center.
What are you talking about? How about a link?
Spurs, county eye tourism tax extension for AT&T renovation. Dated on june 9, 2007, on the metro section.
Ummm..... link?

Butt how does this affect anyone not renting a car or hotel room?
How about starting with getting rid of "Ya'll Ready for this?""We don't want it to fall behind others that are being built or upgraded," Holt said. "Our fans demand the best, and we want to give them the best.

Seems to me the Butt's like to hold on to their money more than most ultra-wealthy. I've lived in other areas where there were families that were mega-wealthy from food chains, VA, St Louis, NY, and those families were much more into public giving than the Butt's. You may need to seek out another chartiable owner.
Hmmmm... I won't vote the the tax...We're already taxed to death here ...
Rent alot of cars and hotel rooms in SA?
It wont happen. Charles Butt is retiring next year and handing over HEB to his nephew who runs HEB-Mexico.
The Butts are actually pretty charitable, you just don't see them in the public eye when they make their donations.
That said, not sure how getting them into an ownership position would change matters, it's still a conglomerate that owns the Spurs and they'd still operate the same way all others sports teams do - pass as much of the cost to the general public as possible.
Well then he should have bought the team when it was up for sale awhile back. Holt stepped up...along with other investors and bought the team where was Mr. Butt's butt then?
So I take nobody rents a hotel room or a car in San Antonio? How the does the center already need repairs? Have some nuts Holt and pay for the repairs!
But this is just a tax on out of towners. The tourista. Helps pay the tab for the things we use here.
Because it is used by 20,000 people, several nights a year. Wear and tear occurs.
I don't.They didn't say anything about repairs. How the does the center already need repairs? Have some nuts Holt and pay for the repairs!
And it's rather specious to speculate a different owner would act differently.
The funny thing is that, I read a story in the newspaper. I think it was a couple of days before or after this article. A health clinic for the poor in this area was closing, because of lack of money. 18,500 is the seating capacity for the center. Rumor is that, some of the money is going to be used to buy new plasma tvs for the rest of the center
And?I think it was a couple of days before or after this article. A health clinic for the poor in this area was closing, because of lack of money.And?18,500 is the seating capacity for the center.I wouldn't doubt that. Wolff (not anyone from the Spurs) actually said what it would be used for.Rumor is that, some of the money is going to be used to buy new plasma tvs for the rest of the center
The Butt's give a lot of money to charities every year. They just don't feel the need to advertise it to everyone.
Portland and Seattle refuse to give any further subsidies to their pro sports teams. Move there.
As charitable as the Butt family is, I'm not sure that there's any evidence that a Butt purchase of the Spurs would loosen the pursestrings on AT&T Center Parkway. That seems like a rather significant assumption, particularly given that the Butt family could long ago have purchased the Spurs, when the purchase price (and the necessary capital outlays to run an NBA franchise) was much smaller.
Why should tax money go for charity? The funny thing is that, I read a story in the newspaper. I think it was a couple of days before or after this article. A health clinic for the poor in this area was closing,
ROFL... I love the morons on this site.
Pick a Billionaire he has to be better than Holt right?

Let's see George Steinberg. The Yankees lost 25 million last year. Dude, we are talking about the 2 or 3 million that are needed to upgrade the center. That's the whole topic, an owner crying about a few mil. Holt is a poor rich owner.
