Championship, without that he couldn't have won the Finals MVP.
Saw Tony Parker with his mvp trophy on nba tv today. When asked which was more important, winning the championship or getting the mvp. He said "both" without hesitation. Then he added that probably the championship meant more. Which award do you think really meant more to him?
Championship, without that he couldn't have won the Finals MVP.
Publicly it would be the Championship
Privately, I have no doubt the MVP means more. If you don't believe it, recall how stung he was when the Spurs frolicked with the notion of bringing in Kidd. Also, recall how much he publicly campaigned his desire to make the All-Star team a couple of seasons ago.
That trophy signifies that Tony has officially arrived on the NBA landscape. It validates all the hard work and effort he's put into his game. It's a huge payoff for him and he should be very, very proud.
BTW, I thought the Spurs were simply foolish for going after Kidd in the first place. However, if that dalliance with Kidd lit a fire under Parker - then he and we are all better off for it. He is every bit as good as any PG in the league. Definitely a top five.
Which is more important to Parker?
Dare I say, that is important to most of us.![]()
well, probably not to most of the women. but even to parker, i doubt it means as much as to the rest of us scrubs. he's french, an athlete, a millionaire ... i think sex comes pretty easy and probably often and early for him (except, of course, now that he's married).
i'm also guessing the mvp means more to him at this point. it's validation that he's as big a part as duncan (who's always been the anchor) and manu (who came on like gangbusters in 05) or that kidd ever would have been. even if the spurs had lost, how bummed could they or san antonio's fanbase have been with 3 championships under their belt?
And I clicked it.![]()
Used and abused. It's yelling for help, can't you hear it?
By the way, is that little black dot supposed to be a tick? I've never seen an anus so puckered up and small in my life.
The MVP, but he's not dumb enough to jeopardize team chemistry and say that in public
He likes the trophy but when he goes home and gets married and reality hits he'll know to use better sentences. He is my age, and that is freaking scary.
it's obvious the mvp trophy is far more important to him, he doesn't say this stuff publicly but you can tell the individual awards are way more important to him, that's why i expect him to go to a big city team once his contract is up, cause he loves the attention
He comes off as really arrogant to me....i'd say that his MVP trophy means most to him but I don't know the guy personally so I won't bash him.
mvp
and i don't mean that in an insulting way. i like having a point guard with some swagger.
Tony should be trated because there is so many spurs fan who are jealous of him
SHUT UP
I think the MVP means more. It's more of an individual award, and I'm sure privately Duncan cherished his MVP trophies more.
With what it means on the resume, and in contract negotiations, it has to be the MVP. After all, when you win the O Brian, several guys get a ring. Only one gets the MVP trophy.
I think Tony has worked hard toward this goal, and is deserving of it. Every year he has gotten better and meant more to this team. And yeah, he like the attention. So what? Who doesn't? Especially at his age. Maybe as he grows older that won't be so important to him. But , as long as he is a major part of bringing trophies here, he can seek all the attention he wants.
I agree, as long as he continues to do so with the class that goes with this team.
So far in all the media blitz he's done he's maintained the right at ude.
Besides, Parker brings something the Spurs haven't really had. A star that basks in the spotlight.
The MVP is a huge validation for him. He's gotten a lot of heat from the Spurs fan base over the years. He's just as glad as anyone that he was able to play well for the entire series. That said, I've never seen any indication that he puts his own success above the team's success. The Spurs go as Parker goes, and it's been that way for a long time. The fact that he says both are important indicates just how important playing well in the big series was for him.
He wouldn't have won the MVP if the Spurs hadn't won the championship, but if Parker didn't play like a finals MVP, the Spurs might not have won the championship.
He was a monster in the Finals, he earned the MVP let him cherish it a little more.
It's also something that the Spurs don't really need...
I doubt that. TD has never shown a me-first side of him before.
...in 4 games. Well let me rephrase - they definitely would not have won in 4 games but I think they would have won in 6
But you don't know what they would have done, you only know what they did, and what they did was in large part due to Parker on both ends of the floor. The Spurs wouldn't have won in '05 without Parker's defense. There's no way to say they would have definitely gotten past Phoenix or Denver this year without Parker. It's a team game, and he's a big part of it. He deserved the trophy, and should be proud of it. Hopefully he remembers how hard he had to work to get it, and keeps putting in the effort.
Didn't say they needed it. Simply saying they never had a press friendly superstar and Parker is it. He handles it beautifully. I like the under the radar approach this team has but if they're going to be in the spotlight Parker is doing them justice with it. Better than bar room brawls and whining to be traded.
