Bobcats' Carroll drawing interest

The San Antonio Spurs, Indiana Pacers and Cleveland Cavaliers have all expressed interest in Charlotte Bobcats shooting guard Matt Carroll.
Carroll confirmed those names in a brief interview Monday with the Observer. He said the Bobcats also called to express interest, and he was waiting for the team to make a formal proposal to his agent, Dan Fegan.
Carroll became an unrestricted free agent Sunday. Bobcats managing partner Michael Jordan said last week that re-signing Carroll is high on the team's priority list, despite the trade for shooting guard Jason Richardson.
Carroll said the Toronto Raptors expressed immediate interest in him when free agency began Sunday, but the Raptors filled that need by coming to terms with ex-Bobcat Jason Kapono. Kapono, who played for Miami last season, will reportedly receive a head-turning four-year, $20 million contract.
Bobcats executive vice president Bernie Bickerstaff said he had more dialogue with representatives for Carroll and Gerald Wallace, but no agreements have been reached.
"Bottom line,'' Bickerstaff said, "we want them to be here and they want to be here.''

?25. Matt Carroll, Bobcats
After a vagabond career that included a stop in the D-League, Carroll is seeking some long-term security. No, he cannot defend, but he is a tough compe or and an above-average shooter.
In the long run, he's worth more than the guys he edged out for No. 25, Morris Peterson, Corliss Williamson, James Posey and Jamaal Magloire.
spurs quest to find "shooters" continue
the inquiry was "are you still a free agent" "you are? good, goodluck"
The only reason they'd look at Carroll is if they are close to having barry shipped out.
I actually like Carroll. He's a tough player who doesn't back down and he can shoot it. Carroll is the type of guy with the fearlessness that would allow him to develop into a clutch player.
His defense is pretty bad but he's tough enough to develop in the Spurs system. The last time the Spurs had him, I thought it was a good signing. But he was too green and he got overwhelmed. Now he should be experienced enough to fit in.
All that said, I don't know where he fits. If Barry were to be traded, I think he'd be a fantastic Barry replacement. I also don't know about going with him over James White, since I think James White is the most capable of becoming a Bowen-esque defender. And if Carroll was signed instead of Bonner, the Spurs would be too overloaded at the wing position.
Basically, if the Spurs do a trade where they ship out Barry, Beno, Butler and Scola for Nocioni or something like that, Carroll would be a good addition for part of the MLE.
damn Butler?
Id rather keep Butler than have Carroll.
get rid of Elson if you want to get rid of someone
Carroll would be an good signing for less than $3M per year. He isn't that talented but he plays with a lot of heart and can be a great scoring punch from the bench.
However, there are two problems.
First, Carroll could get more than $3M per year when you see that Kapono has got $6M per year.
Second, Spurs don't have a roster spot for him.
If Spurs do some trades and if Carroll is quite cheap, why not.
Should have held onto him the first time...
...yeah, who knows, with Carroll the Spurs could of won the 05' and 07' championships!
Well, that was predictable.
WHat about Matt Barnes? Scrappy and could D up.
Carroll is Barry Lite....not a bad option if Barry is being shopped, but it does make me wonder about the future of White and Williams on this team.
Right now, it looks like only one of them will survive the Summer League and training camp....
wth has matt carroll done but show potential ? he's a 10 minute per game journeyman.
I think it's pretty obvious that if Carroll comes to the Spurs it will be after a trade sending out more players than we get back.
If Carroll gets signed, this will be important info to know.
From ESPN.com...
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2654216James White (no salary protection if waived before 8/1/07, thereafter $100,000 and will increase to $200,000 if not waived before 10/1/07 and to $300,000 if on opening day roster)
The last time he was with the Spurs he didn't do too good, but has improved a lot with the Bobcats, but then again, I am sure its a different world over there.
We should get Marcus Williams to play in Europe for a year before we bring him over. I think both of them have some reasonable potential and I'd rather not lose them.
Well, unless we work out a S&T for Noc (or a similar player), if we are going to add through FA this offseason, it would likely be an older player looking for a ring (i.e. hill), or a player who is longer on potential, but hasn't proved anything yet, thus keeping his cost relatively lower (i.e. carroll).
Carroll shot 41.6% on 267 3pt attempts last season...for Charlotte. Hence the interest. Obviously the Spurs are thinking trade as he would replace Barry or Finley (likely Barry). For a cheap price, sure. For Kapono's, nope.
Umm, no he's not. He started 47 games and averaged 26 mpg for the Bobcats last season. His P/40 scoring average was 18.5 ppg, and he shot nearly 42% from 3, and over 90% from the line.
With who we have now at that position, Matt wouldn't see more than 10 mpg. I'd like to see us get a player that can take the ball to the basket. Right now we have Manu and Tony and that's it.
He's getting a six-year deal with the Bobcats.
