Joe Prunty
what's the impact of losing all these assistant coaches/auxillary staff in the past two years or so? brown, presti, pj, i think there's another.
There's this theory that the Spurs lose the coaching staff and management staff they can afford to...
They are so cheap that they don't even want to bring a replacement for poor Carlesimo...
I believe that Mike Brown actually left after 2003, so that would be four years. He had a stop in Indy as an asst before his current gig with Cleveland. I also don't think Joe Prunty was a bench coach. He was like asst coach/video co-ordinator, or something like that.
The one I've always wondered about was Hank Egan. He supposedly retired, but I think this Cleveland assistant gig he has now is his second (GS?) since leaving SA.
during the playoffs I recall an article that alluded to a falling out between Pop and Egan and how they were just now taking the steps to reconnect as they had not really spoke to each other since. I am short on time this morning so I will leave it to others to fill in the blanks. I think it was an Express-News article.
The impact to the Spurs: Results show not much negative impact. 4th championship in 9 years a reality.
The impact to other teams: Results show generally positive impact.
Danny Ferry, Lance Blanks, Mike Brown and Hank Egan of the Cavs were in the NBA Finals. Joe Prunty with the Mavs went to the Finals in 2005-06, lost in the first round in 2006-07. Sam Schuler, the last I heard, had retired from basketball and was living in Sante Fe, NM while active in community affairs. Kevin Pritchard is GM in Portland and appears to be on his way, with some good fortune mixed in, to building a strong team for years to come. Former Spurs intern Monty Williams is also with the Blazers. Paul Pressey went to Orlando as an assistant there after the 1998-99 championship season. Paul has spent the past 3 seasons with the Celtics as an assistant coach and advance scout. He was hired this week by the Hornets to join Byron Scott as one of his assistant coaches. Mario Elie went to assist with the Warriors and spent the 2004-06 seasons there. The last I read, he was looking for work - having interviewed in Charlotte and then last month in Houston. Presti and Carlesimo just left so who knows what impact this will have on Seattle or their careers?
the coaches. It's the players who win Championships. Just ask Phil.
Pop is banging Paris Hilton as we speak
