Simon Pegg is awesome.
I agree with some. I'm skeptical of others.

LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- The bridge of the starship Enterprise is filling up.
Chris Pine has landed the role of Capt. Kirk in the new "Star Trek" movie.
Chris Pine, who had been in talks to join the cast of J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek" flick, will play the young James Kirk, while Karl Urban will take on the role of Dr. Leonard McCoy, distributor Paramount confirmed Thursday.
They join previously announced cast members Zachary Quinto as Vulcan scientist Spock, Simon Pegg as engineer Scotty, John Cho as helmsman Sulu, Zoe Saldana as communications officer Uhura and Anton Yelchin as navigator Chekov.
Leonard Nimoy, who played Enterprise science officer Spock in the 1960s TV series and six "Star Trek" feature films, also will appear as an older version of the Vulcan.
Eric Bana, the star of Steven Spielberg's "Munich" and Ang Lee's "Hulk," is playing a villain in the "Trek" film, which begins shooting in November and is due out in December 2008.
Abrams, creator of "Lost" and director of "Mission: Impossible III," is keeping the plot secret for the film that follows the early days of the "Star Trek" crew, which was led by William Shatner as the bold Capt. Kirk.
Pine's credits include the movies "Smokin' Aces" and "Just My Luck," while Urban appeared in two of the "The Lord of the Rings" movies and "The Bourne Supremacy."
Simon Pegg is awesome.
What would Leonard Nimoy do with his life if there were no Star Trek movies?
the Simon Pegg & John Cho castings are genius. Anton Yelchin is a great choice too.
I'm really scratching my head about Kirk choice tho. Risky.
Star Track is for nerds.

I can't believe timvp has not graced this thread with his presence.
Has anyone heard any of the plot rumors?
I'll try and find some that I can post, but the last I read was that it's all about Kirk being assigned his first ship and everyone else just graduated from the Academy.
Apparently, Lenorad Nimoy will be making a cameo in the movie.
Paramount needs easy money
This is the plot I found.

Star Trek 11 Plot Details: Alternate Timelines, Time Travel, and Romulans!!!

As always when it comes to everything Trek, take this with a, “Maybe, maybe not”, as in, “If it’s all wrong, don’t come blaming me”. But the dudes over at Aint-it-cool-News.com may or may not know what J.J. Abrams has planned for Star Trek 11 and the two Spocks — old Spock played by Leonard Nimoy and young Spock played by “Heroes” star Zachary Quinto. I could try to decipher what AICN said, but since SyFy Portal has done it, and done a bang up job of it, I’ll just quote them on it:
The next Star Trek film apparently will deal with an alternate timeline. And no, not Spock with a goatee, but something that “Star Trek: Enterprise” as a series tried to do but failed.
“Picture an incident that throws a group of Romulans back in time,” Moriarty said. “Picture that group of Romulans figuring out where they are in the timeline, then deciding to take advantage of the accident to kill someone’s father, to erase them from the timeline before they exist, thereby changing all of the Trek universe.”
Apparently the Romulans choose the man himself, Capt. James T. Kirk. Why wait for him to fall off a bridge 100 years in the future when he can be taken out now, the Romulans reason.
That leaves Spock in a peculiar position because somehow he knows about the change, and is able to try and put it all back … but it’s not perfect.
“Evidently, the plan is to use this second timeline as a way of rebooting without erasing or ignoring canon,” Moriarty said. “These new voyages of the Enterprise, they’re taking place in whatever timeline starts with this story.”
!!
I was just about to post that.
Yup! Have you seen Spaced?
Very interesting cast. Nothing will ever beat Picard though, and Chris Pine? No, bad choice. What about Jake Gyllenhaal?
Quinto is too evil to be Spock - he's forever tainted by Sylar I think (although he's a good actor, so we shall see, it might work).
I think Quinto is perfect as Spock, but I do have a problem with Pine.
Let's see how it all turns out.
Why does everyone hate Chris Pine? I'm not a big fan, but he was pretty good in Smokin Aces even though the movie wasn't very good.
Urban seems like a strange choice for Bones.
At least most of you guys aren't complaining that the new cast doesn't look like the old cast. I've seen plenty of people because Chris Pine doesn't look like William Shatner which is just a ridiculous argument.
Just ain't the same for me without the Original cast.
That's a miscast. The guy was in Pathfinder, Doom, Chronicles of Rid , etc
He's an adventurey soldier type actor, and he's playing one of a part meant for a stickler, slightly nerdy, slightly type fellow.
Urrrrrban
Live off his poetry.
Simon Pegg?
Excellent![]()
Agreed, this is a huge miscast.
I concur. She's hot.
No Nick Frost?
