Wow, that factcheck was pretty weak.... So the argument is that Cuban health care is not better than the US, the US is actually a little better.

Hooray. We're a little better than Cuba.

$6600 (u.s.) versus $250 (cuba) per person average annual costs, I spent $75 on a HMO visit to my doc this week, in cuba it would have been free, that fact-check was weak....tweety is a corporate shill...

Yeah, Dr. Gupta looked like he was reaching on some of his arguments. He said Moore was misleading the public by saying that medical care is free in other nations, when in fact it is paid for through tax dollars. First of all, Moore does say in the movie that these countries have higher taxes to pay for medical services. Second, you could make the same argument about our public schools, highways, fire/police protection, etc. They are paid for by taxes, but the services are available to you at no cost at the time you use them.

Ha, ha Gupta's credibility is getting ripped...

Dr. Sanjay Gupta today admitted that he was wrong about some of the facts in his CNN report on SiCKO -- a report that led Michael Moore to blast Wolf Blitzer. The e-mail exchange below, between Moore's team and Gupta's producer, shows that Gupta and CNN had the facts -- including the one he apologized for -- a full day before the Gupta piece first aired on AC360 on June 29 (following Moore's first appearance regarding SiCKO on Larry King Live), and a full 10 days before the network re-aired it preceding Moore's volatile July 9 appearance on The Situation Room.

Yep, and this method places more emphasis on preventive care, since you don't face a co-pay or deductible for each doctor visit. After removing all the costs for HMO administration that is trying to maximize profits by denying needed care for policy-holders instead of helping in providing care, costs decrease. Or we could always continue going with T-Park's method and wait till people are sick enough to get free care in over-stressed emergency rooms that costs 10x more...

Does anyone here dispute that insurance companies should NOT be running health care in the United States? On a personal level, it just seems like we pay a ton of premiums month after month for coverage, and when you need it getting the insurance company to comply is like pulling teeth. I know there needs to be a way to make sure Doctors are not ordering unnecessary tests or procedures for sake of profit, but OTOH people need to receive the care they are paying for without having to worry about the insurance they pay for not covering their legitimate procedures.

One reason why healthcare is so cheap in places like Cuba: you can't sue Fidel if something goes wrong.

Another reason: doctors don't make six-figure salaries. Or even five-figure salaries.

Another: The government owns everything involved in the health care transaction.

US healthcare sucks but if you're going to compare it you have to compare it to a capitalist country, not a communist one.

Which is why Moore featured Britain, including an interview with a British doc. He makes 175K per year, is buying a 1 million dollar condo in London and drives a newer Audi. He gets bonuses, not by sucking off Pharm and tobacco companies or denying benefits, but by such atrocities as getting a higher percentage of his patients to stop smoking or lowering their blood pressure and maintaining proper wait. Thus the emphasis on healthcare, not biziness profit.
But of course T_Park knows two Brits on eBay who say this can't be so.

The doc continued if he wanted 2 houses, 5 cars and a half million a year he would have to move to a system like the U.S.

Moore never does hawk socialism that i recall in his docu, but he does say if Britain can do this surely can't we look at improving the current scam system.

    "he punches the establishment."

Would you say "he punches above his weight"?

I expect MM to be assassinated by a hitman paid by AMA/HMO/health insurance/BigPharma.

Expect an extremely aggressive, expensive, Swift-boat smear and slime campaign by those same groups when politicians start talking about health care reform, even the timid, ineffective changes they've thrown around so .

For-profit health care is a national disaster and disgrace and inhumane. Americans have a lot of freedoms, but only the very rich are free from fear of medical catastrophes. All the other developed countries have national health plans that deliver more health care to more people for less cost than the USA.

WTF can't the The Most Powerful Country in the History of the Universe do it? Because AMA/HMO/health insurance/BigPharma are pocketing 100s of $Bs screwing over the USA and pay protection money to the politicians and regulators to keep the health racket going. The minimum amount of health care for the maximum price.

dumb s like T_park who subscribe to the Reagenesque lie of "government is the problem" deserve a 20-year long debilitating disease that bankrupts their family (most personal bankruptcies in the USA are due to medical catastrophes, and most of them actually had insurance).

Guess who picks up the tab then, for people who can't pay? yep, government financed by your tax dollars.

No, other countries' national health plans aren't "free" at all, they are extremely expensive and troublesome, but they are MUCH cheaper than the US healthcare fiasco. They are paid for by payroll deductions and employer contributions, but they don't amount to $10K - $15K/year for family of 4 like it costs for a US family of 4.

And the coverage isn't capped, either, like coverages are capped in the USA.

And you don't have to pay $3K or $5K deductible either, before insurance kicks in

    "you can't sue Fidel"

The cost of malpractice suits is a minuscule fraction of total health care costs.

TX malpractice premiums have not dropped dramatically after TX passed dramatically lower caps. The insurance companies still charge heavy premiums and make $Ms in profits.

A poor person suing for $250K may net only $100K (if the person can even find a TX lawyer to take the case). $100K of course will disqualify the person Medicaid so the $100K is gone paying the docs and hospitals.
