(oh and I need an IPOD more than Duff need's concert tickets, but MP3 cd's are still a close 2nd.)

I should call it my ACL Fest cd.

I've been looking into building my own MP3 deck to store in my truck.

Essentially, a PC with a basic OS (a Windows 98 or Linux) that is solely used to upload and download MP3's and play them in my truck's audio system.

That way, you could essentially fill a HD with as many as you could and have your whole collection at your fingertips.

I think it's more practical to get a deck that plays MP3 cds. Don't they have new decks with direct connections to IPODS or is that still just a BMW thing?

The only thing about that is the burning of said CD's.

Some new cars are coming with it standard, but I know there are extensions to hook up MP3 players.

The main reason keeping me from going that route is I'm also considering satellite radio.

They already have a hard drive based car player. You can take it out and upload the stuff from you puter and then put it back in your car. It slides into the dash or where ever. Either do that or get on of those little transmitters that you can plug an Ipod into. It transmits whatever input you give it to a certain radio frequency. You just tune your radio in to that number and it will pic up whatever you are playing. They have them at Radio Shack and they will work with anything. True it's dirty but it works.

You know, when I heard about that coupling, I thought I'd really get into it.

For some reason, I just don't dig it, though.

There are decks with inputs out there, I'd rather just get an out from the ipod and go into an input, the signal woudl be cleaner.

However, what I want is a direct interface deck like they have in some new BMWs so you control everything form the deck.

Actually, I can dig some of Linkin Parks stuff, but then mixing is stupid. It's not new , it's just old songs mixed together isn't it? That's like playing 2 cds at the same time.

There are so many channels in San Antonio, though, if you use the usual frequencies.. 88.1 - 88.9, it's difficult to get good reception through the transmitter. Unless you do like me, and hold my MP3 player where the antenna is directed at 90 degrees la ude, a low to moderate number of ulous clouds and no humidity while driving with my left foot during a new moon.

Go with the hard drive based stuff. I know one where you can get over a 100,000 songs on it. Even in high quality.

Well damn dude! What the are you talking about this stuff then! That's like me asking people for advice on what anchor to get for my yacht.

What kind of reception do you get with a full moon SW?

I still dont' know WTF an MP3 player is or how they work.
I still listen to cassette's and the radio and make my own cassette tape recordings.

Maybe when I get off of dial-up I'll know what the you all are talking about.

IPOD?....can you beam somebody up with one of those?

Alpine has a direct connect module for the Ipod. It hooks up to the Aux input on all of the Alpine decks

Plug It in and Charge it Up.

The KCA-420i is the first interface adapter ever to allow seamless communication between an iPod™ and your Alpine car stereo. And the connection is simple because no power wires are needed. Just plug your iPod into the adapter and it charges as you drive. The KCA-420i fits discreetly under the dash, in the trunk or under the seat.

    Get Control.

Plugging in keeps you in control. You can quickly search and listen to your iPod™tracks directly from your Alpine head unit, and even use a remote control. QuickSearch keys allow you to navigate through your collection by Playlist, artist, or album and find exactly what you're in the mood for.

Turn It Up With Superior Sound.

Don't fear a loss in quality. Compatible 2004 Alpine head units use MediaXpander technology to restore lost detail in compressed digital media, bringing essence and life back to the music as the artist had originally intended.

    Expand Your System.

The KCA-420i can be added to any 2004 Alpine Ai-NET head unit. This lets you enjoy your iPod™ in your car, and still use in-vehicle applications such as Multi-Channel Sound System, Satellite Radio, CD Changers and Navigation Systems.

I never said country sucked...I just said I never heard a country song that actually did anything for me. But I've been meaning to pick up this cd for a long time, and I have now. It's excellent.

You should check out what Cash did when he covered Soundgarden's "Rusty Cage".

I have it in MP3 format if anyone wants to check it out.
