    This is probably reaching--

But lets think about this for a minute.

Spurs tell the Rockets they can talk to Scola but only on very limited conditions--cannot talk about the deal they are offering, etc.

Spurs know what Scola wants and needs.

Hopefully, the Rockets don't (at least they shouldn't if they abide by the conditions imposed by the Spurs).

When the negotians begin (and it is my understanding Scola needs to wrap this up by Sunday, the 15th), hopefully the Rockets get a demand from Scola's agrent that also makes their balls drop a few inches as well.

We havenot heard anyhthing yet that they have reached an agreement in principle--and from what I hear, his current team is making an offer Luis can't refuse.

    Dunno.

    We'll see...

Rockets don't make that deal unless they know Scola is coming over.

It's being reported that the Rockets/Scola are working out a deal that he gets a contract starting at $3-3.5M/year. It seems he's going to be playing for the Rockets this upcoming season.

Sorry, Spurs got screwed. Scola is a Rocket.

The only thing I figure is the Spurs don't see Houston as a threat at all next year or in the future.

Even if he never plays for them, losing a second round pick and cash is hardly "getting screwed."

Including $2 mil in cash to cover Spanisssslouos' salary when they could've simply let him walk and enjoyed the salary reduction themselves.

Also, how does Scola have any value to the Rockets if he's not coming over and is locked up long-term with Tau?

If the deal was Butler for $2 mil in cash and a 2nd round pick that's not too far off what they could have hoped to get for him and hardly an awful trade. Disappointing since he ended up on the Rockets, but still.

Scola's inclusion in this deal with him coming over is what makes it a gift to the Rockets.

Scola communicates to the TAU its intention to play in Houston
The Argentine player of the TAU Luis Scola has communicated the president of the club, Joxean Querejeta, his intention to play the next season in Houston.

    13/07/2007 18:50: 00

GASTEIZ-. According to the TAU in an official notice has informed, in the next hours the agent of the player will be put in contact with the club to make specific the details of the exit of Scola.

The player has contract in vigor with the TAU with a high clause of rescission, reason why he will have to negotiate with the club a payment by his march.

The Rockets de Houston madrugad to San Antonio Spurs has acquired this the rights of pívot Argentine.

The chief of a main directorate of the Rockets, Daryl Morey, has emphasized that “Luis is one of the five better players of the international concert which they are not in NBA”, and is outstanding that Scola “contributes experience and strength in a position that we needed to reinforce”.

Wasn't Scola's buyout for the upcoming season something like 3M, of which the Rockets can only pay 0.5M?

Yes. I'm guessing he'll pay off the buyout in payments, like a lot of players do.
