I'm looking to purchase a soft-modded Xbox, but can't find one.
What the le says.

Yes. Unfortunately it just croaked for unrelated reasons.
Most common way is to flash the drive. Some people charge 50-100 bucks for it, but it can be done on your home computer if you have the right components.
You gotta open the Xbox (voiding warranty like modchips did on the PS2/XBOX) plug the DVD drive into a SATA port on your computer, and use a few programs to flash the DVD drive.
Depending on your drive, you can even lower the speed of your DVD drive so it's more silent.
I doubt there would be a fully functional one. What kind of media would you use for the ISO's and is there any burner on the market that would live a day if you burned games for a 360, if you're not using the HD to put them in.

Most of it just looks like updated firmware.
Oh, I have mine modded already.
E20, what I use are Verbatim DVD+R DL discs and the ISOs burn just fine (well, mostly, which is the point of my thread).
Mr. Peabody, I bought my 360 used and had somebody do the firmware flash for me. Took all of about 15 minutes and he charged me about $40.
I was going to ask if anybody had NCAA 08 already since I'm having a ton of problems with the release.
The drive in an Xbox 360 is a DVD dual layer drive. The HD-DVD addon is for movies as no HD games have been releases AFAIK. So you use any dual layer burner to burn games.
Edit: NM, already addressed.
My 360 died while playing guitar hero so I gotta find a new one.
you can burn isos on dvdrs. no idea if the firmware update would let you read them.

Oh no, I meant the old Xbox, not the 360. I want it for the Xbox Media Center. A friend of mine has one and it's really cool.
I found some on Craigslist, so maybe I can pick one up after all.
I really liked using the Xbox 360 to play Hi-Def WMV movies with the media center. It looks just as good as HD shows I watch on my TV and you don't gotta buy a Blu-ray/HDDVD player.
Anyways, what kind of probs with the release? I got a friend that'll probably have it by tonight. Apparently, people on various forums have it working without any probs.
I still haven't figured out how to get my 360 connected to my computer or I would do the same thing.
Well, first, the release was piss-poor. About four of the files were corrupt, it came without stealth patches and I can't get it to burn correctly and three separate downloads. Every burn of it goes bad for me and I can't figure out what it is. I've tried CloneCD and IMGBurn and have burned "The Bigs" and "APF 2K8" without any problems recently.
Yeah, I never figured it out either. I opted to get a portable 60GB USB hard drive and store a bunch of them from there, works like a charm.
The odd thing is that you need the drive to be formatted in Mac format for the 360 to recognize it.
At this point (with regards to NCAA 08), I'm not willing to waste a fourth disc trying to get it right. I might just have to find somebody to get me a working backup.
That's freaking odd, I assume you repaired it with par files. Did the release come with one of them .dvd files that says LayerBreak=1913760 inside if you open with notepad?
After I come back from work I'll check if my friend burned it.
sorry to interrupt but, what does "modded" mean.
Modified?
The first time I DL'ed it, I downloaded the corrected files separately and combined them. Bad burn.
The second time, the corrected files were already replaced. Bad burn.
The third time, I DL'ed the same files as in #2, but applied the stealth patch, too. Bad burn.
As someone pointed out in an earlier thread Hitler had one...

I dont though.
I'm curious how large are the ISO's for 360 games? Since this is NextGen I'd expect them to be well over regular DVD-R's (4.7GB) and at least be around 7 GIGS? And JB what kind of burner do you use? Apparently I can burn DL discs, but I always get a layer break error, so I have to downsize my games, but as the graphics get better I expect like Triple Layer DVD-R's or some like that.

There is another place for info on 360 modds. My bad, I guess you can mod a 360. I'm more of a Playstation guy.
I bought a 5 pack of those and it was expensive and my burner was gay and I wasted all 5 of those trying to burn God of War 2.E20, what I use are Verbatim DVD+R DL discs and the ISOs burn just fine (well, mostly, which is the point of my thread).
I usually stick to TDK, not great, but good media and it's not that expensive.
Verbatim discs are the only ones that will work in my 360, so I'm kind of stuck there.
Most games seem to be around the 5.5-6.5GB mark as far as size and with nothing ripped.
