With players like Tarence Kinsey, Stoudamire, Stromile Swift, Hakim Warrick and Brian Cardinal, the Grizzlies look to also have an effective bench. But Wallace is still on the prowl for more help.
The Grizzlies currently have 11 players under contract. Wallace said he would like to head into the regular season with 13 players, two shy of the maximum. That would leave him the flexibility to add players, due to injuries or a need at a certain position, without having to cut someone.
"Our plan at this point is to sign two more players, a front court player, hopefully a guy with some athleticism who can rebound the basketball," Wallace said. "A little maturity would also be welcomed, as well, and experience. And somebody on the perimeter that can operate at the two-guard or small-forward positions, or both, that can add some outside shooting, some defense, and some versatility."
Two perimeter players the Grizzlies have shown interest in are unrestricted free agents Ime Udoka (Portland) and Matt Barnes (Golden State). Wallace, who said there is no timetable on filling out the roster, said he is uncertain if any of the free agents who played on the Grizzlies' summer league team will be invited to training camp, which opens in Spain.
"We haven't decided how many players that it's appropriate to take over to Spain," he said. "We haven't really thought that through at this time. Several of those players did well and are deserving of a training camp invitation."
