People are lovin' Udoka a little bit too much.
Happens with almost every free agent signing, doesn't it?
Yes, but I just find this one more funny for some reason. I guess because in the beginning of the summer, many people didn't know who he was. Now he's the second coming![]()
whottt is going to make make him into the biggest FA acquisition since Timmy resigned in 2000
mercer and smith did nothing
smith biggest thing did was went over to tp and told him use his legs
then tp started making them and his face light up
hedo atleast rebounded
mike and barry I give you
I think he has ever potential being better then any of those players
mike and barry were past their primes before they got to the spurs
Same crap with White, Butler, Charles Smith, JR Smith and so forth. He'll do little and I guess thats enough.
Finley got here when he was 32. Udoka is 30. Not really that much different age-wise but Finley had a lot of mileage.
I'm assured he'll be a better defender than Barry and Finley but I don't expect him to be a guy who averages 10-12 ppg.
He could be a nice addition. We'll see. After all, I hardly knew who Bruce Bowen was before the Spurs signed him, and I certainly didn't expect him to be the replacement for Sean Elliott. But here we are, and Bruce has been one of the key players in 3 championship runs. That said, even if Ime did have all the skills of Bruce (), he's still shorter.

How on earth was Mercer better than Hedo- Mercer did not play and got cut before the end of the season.
I recall ElliottFan and timvp as the only ones who were interested in Udoka from the beginning of the offseason.

No kidding. It's like they believe he will be the second coming of Bowen--although only 6/5".
I guess that wingspan thingamajig will have to come on strong.
actually Udoka>>>>MJ

THANK YOU!![]()
This guy could turn out to be a very good role player on this team, but damn...
I mean, c'mon! This dude may have shot over 40% last year....but it was a career first, he's 30 years old, and he's got to learn a new system.
I am hopeful that this guy turns into a Raja Bell or Bruce Bowen-type of player, but there's also a SIGNIFICANT possibility that last year was a fluke year when he got big minutes on a bad club....a possibility that you saw the best of Ime last year.
I'm not rooting for this kid to fail, just trying to get some of you to come back to reality.
I'm sure Portland was thinking much the same thing last year when he not only signed a contract but also was a starter. But that ended up working out pretty well for them, didn't it?![]()
i agree.. too much love so far...

Well, in an offseason where the biggest positive event was the resigning of the "Ugliest productive player" that Pop has ever seen (not to mention an off-season shrouded in upsets) we really needed something to get excited about. Besides, Udoka is very low risk. He comes at a positions of need and with an ideal skill-set. But if he doesn't pan out then hes making far less than even Beno Udrih...and how long has the coaching staff endured him? Udoka was an ideal signing for a team with a salary crunch. And regardless of whether or not his shooting or defense was a fluke, his obvious high work ethic indicates he could hit a slump and still contribute in some form or another.
Udoka gives the bench a great deal of utility. Barry and Finley mostly duplicated all their important skills, but Ime brings a different skill set. Good to see.
Excellent take. He's no savior -- like James White-- but for the money spent it looks like a good deal.
Agree that he is a good acquisition. Low-risk and excellent value.
But the originator of this thread and all those drinking the Udoka kool-aid are talking about his ability and how he's better than most every other role player of Spurs' past and present.
I'm just saying the hype on this guy based on his production...not his potential + last year's production + relative value....is rediculous.
BTW, I understand the slow summer, which is why I'm trying to contain the Udoka hype...which sounds funny to even say.

I agree
another thing he does is he helps the spurs out against dallas
any teams that have 2 good scores udoka can guard one and bowen the other one
if udoka has duncan behind him how much better will he be
udoka also gives spurs a big plus if bowen gets hurt or in foul trouble
if you want to think so
Ime's "different skill set" is defense. He's not a slasher or a distributor. He's a spot-up shooter on offense, so how does that make him different from Barry & Fin.
Again, I'll give you that he seems to be a better defender...but I wouldn't consider that a "set" of skills.
he also makes barry more tradable to get someone else like better backup point
