Do you know where the closure is taking place? South Austin?
you'd be wise to either postpone what you were going to do or find an alternate route.

I-35 south of Austin to close at 9 p.m. Friday

This is for those of you who are headed for the Texas State University graduation this weekend and are worried about the Interstate 35 closure.
The Texas Department of Transportation says southbound closure will start at 9 p.m. Friday, following shortly by northbound closure. Expect your travel time to roughly double. That’s if there are no accidents or overheats (I was in one of those once for more than an hour). Things could also move more quickly during nonpeak hours.
But expect the road to be closed until very late Sunday or early Monday. Use U.S. 281 unless it takes you way out of your way. It’s a pretty drive, too.
The reason for the closure, by the way, wasn’t what I’d guess. They’re going to be moving steel beams over the road for ramps for . Steel beams and cars don’t mix.

i'm pretty sure it's the Buda area just south of Austin, where they're working on the toll road that will connect to I-35.
That's what we hear too
I unfortunately am doing the drive twice round trip this weekend.... down and up tomorrow for mothers day with the in-laws, then down and up sunday for my mother and the spurs game...
If anyone is making the trip - we're doing (from Round Rock headed south) 130 (the new toll road) to 183 to 21 into San Marcos. I've made that trip before when driving down for a friday night spurs game earlier this year and it wasn't too bad - but that was before 130 made it down to 183 all the way - so now with that last extension opened, it should be much better. It's obviously longer than 35 but I'd rather do that instead of sitting in traffic with 18 wheelers.
