Time to see what Spurs draft pick Tiago Splitter can do against the big boys. Brazil is arguably the second best team in this tournament, so if the US is going to be pushed at all, it's going to be against Brazil.

Personally, I think the US is going to stomp Brazil by 20+. I'm just hoping that Splitter looks somewhat decent. Hopefully he doesn't look overmatched.

Game to be shown on ESPN2 at 8PM CST.

from what I've seen of the kid, he looks real good. He's athletic with basketball smarts. I'm way more stoked about him than I ever was for Scola or Ian.

Some observations thus far with Tiago Splitter. He won't wow you with his scoring. That doesn't seem to be his job on Brazil. His role has been as an enabler, setting middle and side screens, two or three per trip. Brazil occasioinally feeds him in the post or they will back pick for him, but he's not a feature player, per se. On defense, he's pretty smart on his help..he watches the whole court, he sags and anticipates having to help but he's not real aggressive. I have yet to see Tiago beat the ball to the backboard. He is somewhat foul prone.

I doubt he can stay on the floor in this game.

Brazil by 1, Splitter with the go-ahead slam and the game-saving block at the rim on Dwight Howard.

Okay. Maybe not. But it would be interesting to see.

Agreed. Good defender ... but more Oberto than Robinson.

What is your scouting report on Scola?

TimVP did...TimVP is convinced the Spurs turned down Wilt, Hakeem, Kareem, Drob, Tim Duncan, Kobe, Jordan, Gervin, West and AJ for Scola...just so they could throw the Rockets the le this year and save some $$$.

IOW...you are preaching to the choir, because TimVP has a higher opinion of Scola than you do...

So apparently we REALLY missed out on Esteban Batista.

22.3 points, 14.3 rebounds, 2.3 steals per game.

    He's still available!

Use the rest of the MLE!

    Now!

Yes, because one non-NBA game played over a year before a player's NBA debut is the sole determinant of that player's NBA career.

Well, Scola had a bad game last year, so he's already been proven a bust.

Ordinarily I would never refute anyone who has a Vince Young avatar. But I gotta disagree with you bro. Tiago has looked far better then Nene. Now that may not be saying much, and Tiago may not wow you with his stats, but he's the type of player that doesn't do anything great, but does everything well.
