    Barbaro's full brother born
Unnammed colt is second sibling for late Derby champ
    Posted: Saturday April 21, 2007 1:14PM; Updated: Saturday April 21, 2007 1:14PM

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) -- Kentucky Derby winner Barbaro now has a second full brother.

Barbaro's mother, La Ville Rouge, gave birth to the 148-pound bay colt at 2:08 a.m. Friday, according to Mill Ridge Farm. The farm is also home to Barbaro's other full brother, a yearling recently named Nicanor.

La Ville Rouge and Dynaformer, a stallion who fetches a $150,000 stud fee at nearby Three Chimneys Farm, were scheduled to mate again later this spring, Mill Ridge director of sales Bayne Welker said in February.

Barbaro was euthanized Jan. 29 after complications from his gruesome breakdown at last May's Preakness.

    Dominican Takes Bluegrass Stakes
    April 16, 2007

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- (Sports Network) - Dominican, ridden by Rafael Bejarano, made a rush down the stretch to nose out even-money favorite Street Sense to capture Saturday's $750,000 Blue Grass Stakes at Keeneland. The victory puts Dominican solidly into the Kentucky Derby picture long with Street Sense.

The pace in the Blue Grass was kept very slow by Teuflesberg as he led the seven horse field through the first quarter-mile in 26 seconds. Pressing the slow pace was Zanjero, the 9-5 second choice Great Hunter and Street Sense.

The order did not change up the backstretch and into the far turn. Around the turn for home Great Hunter, with Corey Nakatani riding, drew along side of Teuflesberg.

Coming out of the turn, Teuflesberg was very wide forcing Great Hunter and Street Sense into the middle of the track. Great Hunter bumped Street Sense in mid-stretch and was forced to take-up by Teuflesberg.

Street Sense, ridden by Calvin Borel, dueled with Teuflesberg and Zanjero in late stretch after Great Hunter experienced more traffic problems. On the far outside Dominican closed to nip Street Sense at the wire.

Zanjero finished third followed by Teuflesberg, Great Hunter, Time Squared. Love Dubai finished last after a slow start.

The time for the Blue Grass Stakes was 1:51.33 on the all-weather track.

Dominican is owned by the Silverton Hill Partnership and trained by Darrin Miller. Saturday's win was worth $450,000 to bring the chestnut three-year- old's career earnings to $581,259 with three wins in seven starts.

He was coming off a win in the Rushaway Stakes last month at Turfway Park, but went off at odds of 8-1. In his seven starts Dominican has never finished worse than fourth.

Dominican returned $18.00, $5.60 and $3.80. Street Sense paid $3.40 and $2.60, and Zanjero paid $3.60 to show.

Strike the Gold is the most recent horse to win both the Blue Grass Stakes and the Kentucky Derby. He accomplished the feat in 1991. In 1996 Skip Away captured the Blue Grass on his way to becoming champion three-year-old male.
