do you have any issues with the current router?
Anyone have any experience/recommendations with the new 802.11n (draft) wireless routers? Linksys, Belkin, and Netgear all have different claims for their versions. I have a new laptop with a wireless-n card and was wondering if it's worth upgrading the router.
do you have any issues with the current router?
nah....i wouldn't bother unless there's something wrong with your current one, as lee (if i'm following him) is implying. IF you must get something new...you can't go wrong with linksys and netgear. professionally, all we use are linksys routers, but personally, all i've ever used netgear ones. the linksys ones seem to need to be power cycled quite often. i'm also pretty happy with some of the d-links that some of my clients have purchased on their own.
The one I have works fine except for some occasional hiccups streaming music and video. I thought maybe the N would cut down on those.
My business partner bought a Belkin N and said it is noticeably faster than his older router. And they are realatively cheap.
you might feel a difference if you're coming from 802.11b, but the thing is...at this point, we're talking about network speed, that is speed between PC to PC. your internet speed isn't fast enough to take advantage of the newer wireless speeds anyways.
Why not? My internet speed is DSL 3.0/0.768.
because, it can't go that fast....see you're talking about mb/s...that's megabits per second.....even the older 802.11b allowed for 11mb/s. on your fastest days, your dsl (3mb/s) won't come close to that. so at this point, the debate is about your network speed. if you want to transfer a file on your laptop to another PC on your network faster..then go for it. if you're looking for it to make your internet faster...you're out of luck.
*slaps head*
Got it. Although for the streaming music/videos from network-attached storage it should still make a difference, que no?
