Nice find.
Although I think the block most people had been calling for was his one against the Mavericks in the preseason opener. This was a pretty nice block, too . . .
Dont know if this was posted yet, found on youtube

nice block![]()
THis guy is going to be a stud once he gets more experience.
It's so good to see another player who has the inate ability to protect the rim - besides Duncan.
He waned Steve Bardo's old number, but the Spurs are planning on retiring it.
Good question. I haven't read an explanation on that.
My guess would be it relates to Mahinmi being the 28th pick of the 2005 draft.
28 is the spot where the Spurs drafted him...perhaps that is why #28.
Nice recovery by Ian on that block. He looked like a young Mr. Robinson on that one.
Even though it was a nice block, it was actually horrible defense in regards to Spurs Basketball. If Mahinmi made that play in an actual game, he'd be pulled out right away ... as weird as that sounds.
When he closed out on the shooter, he closed out on the wrong side and allowed the player to drive middle. On top of that, he closed out on the shooters wrong hand. Mahinmi was supposed to close out on the other hand and force the player baseline where he had help.
Nice recovery at the end but it's an example to show how far away he is from being ready to play for the Spurs.
How many games with the spurs he have?![]()
is this the dunk by Manu that everybody talked?

here's one for you CAREFREEAZ
TIMVP, Give the kid a break. He actually ATTEMPTED to close out on the proper side. If you watch the video closely he approached the ball with his frame angled towards the sideline in an attempt to funnel him in that direction. He just took a bad angle, and the ball handler forced the issue to the middle. He was thinking the right thing, just didn't execute it properly. It's not that easy especially for a rook, especially for a tall rook. Pop would not pull him out for that.
timvp pawns the out of any sports analyst ever.
keep up the good work
Mahinimi played volleyball right? Well that block right there is more volleyball than basketball.........![]()
No he didn't. He played soccer (as most young boys here).
It was a great block and clear evidence of a kid with a true defensive instinct and the physical ability to get it done. I hope Mahinmi keeps bringing it.
