If you can come up with like 1/3 of the money at once, they'll probably just settle and write it off. Good luck.
I can't believe you're getting served for this. I had like three cards with balances that high or greater, and no one served me.
yeah well lvnv is notorious for this ...just do a google search for "lvnv sued". i just have to find out if i should fight it or not. the funny thing is...with this new job i'm starting, the plan was to pay everyone off....well if i fight it..they may not get sheeit. one of the things i'm learning is that i can ask for proof containing itemized purchases and because they're just a collection agency, they probably do not have all that information so that looks good in my favor. we'll see how this pans out. it's interesting because i just fixed a laptop for an attorney friend of my wife's. she asked how much she owed me thursday when we dropped it off, i told her not to worry about it but when i needed some legal advice, i'm going to call her. looks like i'm gonna have to use up that favor 2 days later. damn it...i wanted to hold onto that one too. oh well, maybe i'll have to build a network for them and a website.
thanks...that's something i'm considering and should be able to do.
a collection agency?
that means that best buy done wrote you off....
a collection agency buys the bad debt accounts from stores like best buy and keeps a % of what they collect IF they collect. you don't owe them anything.
if anyone is taking you to court it will be best buy, not the collection agency
Contact the attorney and ask what he'll settle for.
And next time, pay your bills.
Yeah a collection agency looks pretty bad on the credit report.
Dude...if it's just a collection agency, here's my advice: IGNORE THEM.
They can't throw you in jail for bad debts (at least in Texas they can't, or my happy ass would have been sold for cigs 20 years ago!), and if it's gotten this far your credit's already trashed.
If you respond to a collection agency you are just confirming the debt and they'll come after you even harder. If they're calling you at work, simply tell them to stop or you'll file a harrassment complaint.
I should start my own "Dave Ramsey" type advice show for those of us with ed up credit...

Handy hint to file away for the future, if you can't afford it, don't buy it.
Sometimes life throws you some curve balls and you end up owing money. The first comment was enough, you didn't need the second one.
These type of comments bug me just like the people on the forum who think everyone who chooses to rent instead of buying a house are stupid. Everyone has life cir stances that are different.
Of course, some of us are just deadbeats.

I completely understand the curve balls life throws at folks, and have been there myself, and do owe money that I had no business of buying what I did.
But in my most humblest of opinions, if you don't have cash for it, you can't afford it (outside of keeping the lights on and food on the table).
I thought being for a RK fan and a nasty trucker, a deadbeat was just a given.

Don't forget that all-important 10% to the church!
Sincerely,
Dave Ramsey

Nasty truckers in Flying Hooks all over the country are offended that you lumped me in with them.
Approves
I thought they'd be too busy trading porn DVD's to notice.
Flying Hooks=Flying J?
They sue you, get a default judgment and you have 7 years to try and pay it off...$1600 bucks isn't much they would probably settle for less than half before paying a lawyer...about the only recourse you have left to try is too stretch this out beyond the 4 year limit they have to sue you by writing them and asking for a clarification of this debt, or another trick you might use is writing them and telling them to refer this debt to the original creditor....since you did not borrow money from this collection agency you owe them nothing, if you do it in writing they would have to refer this debt back to BB....and BB would be less inclined to sue you.....
Isn't it too late to try and settle if they have already served him with court papers? I know you can negotiate prior to that, but I didn't think you could once they've sued. Well, good luck anyway!
There is nothing wrong with renting! We finally bought a house last year, and OMG, it's the biggest expense and worry you can ever imagine. There is always something your house needs.
I started getting calls all of the sudden 2 weeks ago from some collection agency that calls out of india.
They say i owe ITT tech 120 dollars...
i went to one class at ITT tech like 12 years ago...lol...
Is the last time you made any payment on the debt more than 4 years old?
This is critical.
A debt collector or creditor has a four year statute of limitation to sue you--which starts from the date of the last payment made on the debt.
If so--get a lawyer and summary judgment this out of court.
But these comments don't bug you?
BlizzYour so full of !T Park Get a ing Job asshole I am tiered of supporting you!
