He took his liberties against other elder centers when he was in his prime, but he hasn't sustained well at all. He looks horrendous with the ball.
I'm not sure why he is so bad given that he still has sheer size which he has used effectively throughout his career, but he is.

Age plus poor conditioning plus the changes in defensive rules that don't allow Shaq to just lower his shoulder and bowl over defenders. Add below average teammates and incompetent coaching, and he looks more like Jerome James than Dwight Howard.
Add togethr age, lack of talent and likely year long injuries along with improvement in some Eastern teams and there's a very good chance the Heat are lottery bound.
