Gang GREEN in the finals? GET REAL...

Okay, by now we've all heard how awesome the Boston Celtics are and that they are a lock for the Eastern Finals, if not the NBA Finals...which leaves at least one writer a bit confused...
since when can an NBA team turn from one of the worst teams in the league to an elite contender in one season?
Does the addition of 'The Kid' and Jesus Shuttleworth really guarantee a dominant season?
Some thoughts:
* What happens if one of the BIG THREE gets injured? Foul trouble?
* Who, other than Garnett, will be playing ANY defense?
* Really? Rondo and Perkins? REALLY??!?!?
* The makings of a championship bench: House, T. Allen, G. Davis, Pollard & Posey???
* How is this team any different than the Nets? (Big 3 and nothing else...)
* Michael Jordan-led teams aside, how can you win the big one without a dominant (or at least DECENT) point guard OR center?
* Doc Rivers...Danny Ainge...hhmmmm...not exactly your first choices in a coach and GM.
* The trio of Allen, Pierce, and KG already puts the Celts over the salary cap...yet somehow Boston is supposed to bring in quality supporting players?
* Haven't we learned ANYTHING about 'all-star' teams, yet? Remember when Houston added Barkley to crate an all-star trio of Olajuwon, Drexler, and Barkley? Or even when they replaced Drexler with Pippen? How did that work out? How about the SUPER LAKERS of 2004? Four of the five starters are Hall of Fame locks and in the top 5 to EVER play their respective positions...they couldnt get past the teamwork fundamentals of the Pistons. What about the current Suns, who boast not only a BIG 3 in Nash, Marion, and Amare, but also boast one of a bench...so far, they have proved that they cannot win the big ones...though the clock hasnt run out on them quite yet...but they are leap years ahead of the Celtics...
In my opinion, the only way a BIG 3 combo can work is if those three players include a point guard (playmaker), a scorer, and a big man....and you need not look any further than the current San Antonio Spurs to see this in action. In Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili, and Tim Duncan, the Spurs have their own BIG 3 to overcome...NOT TOO MENTION a great cast of role players who have helped the Spurs dominate the last decade of pro ball. Not only that, but they play AS A TEAM better than any other unit in the NBA, with only the Pistons coming close...
it may be a long time before we see as balanced of an NBA finals as we got the pleasure of witnessing in 2005. With the Spurs and the Pistons at the top of their games. I - like many people - honestly did not know who the better team was...and sure enough...it took 7 games to figure out...and a victory margin of only 7 points before the Spurs were annointed the better team.
as for Gang Green?
I have no doubt that they ARE good and WILL be an Eastern contender...it's just not going to happen in one season...call me when the Celtics bring in a veteran point guard, thicken their bench talent, and have at LEAST ONE SEASON of experience together before we start dubbing them 'the next big thing'
deal?
LMAO at comparing the Celtics big three to the Nets big three.
Are you kidding me?
This guy is stupid.... hes comparing the Celtics big three to the Nets big three, and even worse, to the 2004 Lakers ??? article...
Last year the Cavs were in the Finals with ONE superstar, plus-- no PG, no center, no cast of veteran role-players. The Celtics not only have 3 Stars, they have Garnett, who not only scores but also rebounds and plays great defense. If they stay heathy they will be a real good team.
A Spurs-Celtics Finals would be good IMO. Or Spurs vs. anybody.
The Celtics are going to be good, you can already tell this early in the year. Not only do the have the big 3, but they have a defensive stopper, a young talented point guard, and two capable scorers off the bench.
At halftime of their game against the Nuggets, they are up 77-38. Scary
Having a player like Garnett or Duncan makes up for holes in the defense, because they will be waiting under the basket.
this applies to just about every teamWhat happens if one of the BIG THREE gets injured?
in the early going, rondo looks like the real deal, and perkins isnt a liability, which is all im going to ask forReally? Rondo and Perkins? REALLY??!?!?
so its a coincidence they held WAS and TOR to 35% and 37% FG% respectively?Who, other than Garnett, will be playing ANY defense?
ummmm...KG???How is this team any different than the Nets? (Big 3 and nothing else...)
ok, thats actually kinda trueDoc Rivers...Danny Ainge...hhmmmm...not exactly your first choices in a coach and GM.
A lot depends on what kind of players make up your Big 3. The Spurs Big 3 are talented AND unselfish and make their less talented teammates better. The Lakers Big 4 a couple of years back were seriously flawed in the chemistry department. The Celtics Big 3 are comparable to the Spurs in this regard. The beating they're giving Denver is simply awesome, going into the 2nd half leading by 39 and limiting Nuggets to 38. WOW in any language. The lesser Celt players games have been elevated playing with Garnett & Co. Its early in the season but the Celtics are for real IMO. Sure injuries can happen but that applies to all teams, Spurs included. I'd love to see a Finals between the Cetics and Spurs but that's only a wish.. bith teams have a long hard road ahead of them and nothing's for sure..
